Tyzone has gone one better in the 2020 edition of the Stradbroke Handicap to secure Team Edmonds their maiden victory at Group 1 level.
Having finished runner-up to Trekking 12 months ago, Tyzone survived a blanket finish to clinch the state’s most prized race, edging out Madam Rouge, Niccanova and Vega One on the line.
Having tasted Group 1 success overseas, Robbie Fradd finally broke his duck in Australia as he steered the six-year-old gelding to a narrow win, his 17th for his Far North Queensland connections.
“This is outstanding,” Trent Edmonds said.
“What a horse and I must thank Tom Hedley and the team from Cairns for giving us a crack and believing in us.
“He’s just a star, honestly, horses don’t do what he’s done. He’s a winning machine and it’s just so, so special.”
Having chalked up more than 100 winners as a training combination this season, the one piece of the puzzle missing for Toby and Trent Edmonds was a Group 1 victory.
But on Queensland Day, the Gold Coast-based combination finally broke through as Tyzone rounded up the entire field as he swept from the far outside to record a famous win.
