Amended Thoroughbred COVID-19 Protocols

In line with the Queensland Government’s Border Directions previously issued by Queensland’s Chief Health Officer and effective October 1, 2020, the following amendments have been made in relation to the revised NSW border zone:

• A licensed participant who resides in a NSW border zone who has the appropriate Border Declaration Pass and has satisfied any other requirements of the Queensland Government, may attend Queensland racing and training venues.
• The licensed person must not have attended a racecourse, licensed racing or training premises in a declared COVID-19 hotspot, outside of the NSW border zone in the preceding 14 days.
• If the NSW border zone resident has travelled in a COVID-19 hotspot outside the border zone within the preceding 14 days, they must not enter Queensland.

• A licensed Queensland participant can travel to and participate at racing/training venues in the NSW border zone, but cannot travel to and participate at racing/training venues outside the border zone in NSW.
• A licensed Queensland participant who travels outside the border zone in NSW, cannot attend a Queensland racing or training venue for 14 days.

Additional refinements of the RQ Thoroughbred COVID-19 protocols - non–TAB race meetings

At non-TAB meetings, the on-course testing process and requirements will be restricted to jockeys. It is the responsibility of each race club to ensure jockeys entering the scales area and jockeys’ room of a racecourse have passed the temperature testing process:

• Upon arrival on course a jockey must not enter the scales area/jockeys’ room until their temperature has been checked by the designated official and verified within normal parameters. A verified test within the normal parameter (under 37.6).
• A jockey experiencing an elevated temperature will be given the opportunity to have a further temperature assessment up to 15 minutes following the first assessment.
• If the jockey’s temperature remains elevated the person is not permitted to enter the jockeys room. The person is required to leave the racecourse and should be advised to seek medical advice through 13HEALTH. For jockeys, a medical clearance to the satisfaction of the QRIC may be required before riding again.
