Coome hopeful of big day out at Rockhampton

Adrian Coome believes he’s a good chance of training a treble at Rockhampton’s Callaghan Park on Tuesday but the odds are against him of equalling a career-best four winners set in April at the same track.

The former top jockey has runners engaged in four races with Buffy the headline act in the Open Handicap over 1300 metres.

Last start winner Srini will be hoping to go back-to-back in the Benchmark 65 Handicap over 1600 metres, while Amorem and Poetic Final Say have accepted for the 1100-metre Class Two Handicap.

Parisian Tycoon and Kings County complete Coome’s entries in the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1100m.

“I can hopefully win all four races but the odds are not very good,” Coome said.

“But I’m pretty confident I can train three winners.”

Coome is hopeful Buffy can maintain his unbeaten stable record and stretch his winning sequence to three following a Class Six victory on his home track in October and a last start open company win on November 6.

“I wasn’t sure how Buffy would go in his first open company run in this area but he won well,” Coome said.

“He’s run some good races in Brisbane for his previous trainer Stu Kendrick and if he wins again, I might take him back to Brisbane.

“Steelz Time is in the race but he ran fourth at Mackay on Saturday and won’t be running.”

Former Sydneysider Srini has found his niche in Central Queensland finishing second in his debut in a Class Two over 1300 metres on October 8 before winning impressively in a 1300-metre Class Three on October 22.

“He did a good job to win last start and he’s improved again but he’ll spell after this run,” Coome said.

Coome hopes to one day train in Brisbane but he delayed any possible move for the immediate future.

“One day I hope to train in Brisbane but it won’t be for a couple of years,” he said.

“It’s pretty hard getting boxes at Eagle Farm at the moment but there’s a chance of training at Doomben as one of my owners has a stable there.”

Coome retired from riding in 2018 following a long battle with weight problems.

In his riding days, Coome rode 975 winners and was the State’s leading rider three times, winning seven Rockhampton jockeys’ premierships and two in Mackay.
