The TE and HM Parker Syndicate made the initial purchase of Sprightly Bro from Victoria back in April last year and stepping into the Townsville scene a month later, it seems a good investment on the black sprinter had paid off having won 10 races over both distances as well as $27,000 in prize money.
“The quality in Victoria was a bit tough for Sprightly Bro, his form prior to coming here was good and displayed that he had ability - he has come to hand really well and has progress in the grades,” Parker said.
“He’s a big 32-kilogram dog with a massive striding action and seems to have adapted well to the corner start.
“On paper drawing box seven isn’t that much of a concern as there isn’t much speed drawn either side.”
Parker is fully aware that the might of the Brad Belford kennel will be a force to reckon as main dangers.
Belford will have two top runners in the Country Cup semi-final courtesy of Cult Hero and Major Gibson.
Both prolific feature race winners from last year, winning 37 races between them, the Gumlow-based trainer says Cult Hero is the standout of his classy pair in the event, and will exit the traps from box two.
“The draw suits Cult Hero nicely and should have the pace to lead and Major Gibson will hopefully get run in behind,” Belford said.
“Sprightly Bro is well placed where he can get real a crack at the lead.”
The first and second placegetters will progress through to the Country Cup final at Albion Park on February 4, as two third placegetters will make up the field following selection through high grading.
