Is Eloquently the next find for Tregea?

Trainer Steve Tregea hopes to get a strong pointer as to whether Eloquently will be his next big star when the filly makes her Brisbane metropolitan debut at Doomben on Saturday.

Eloquently has won her past four starts and will be ridden by Anthony Allen in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1050 metres.

The daughter of Poet’s Voice faces a daunting task to stretch her winning sequence to five when she clashes with Tony Gollan’s boom filly, Miami Fleiss.

Eloquently has won four of her seven starts, including three wins on her home track at Toowoomba, before a commanding win against her own age in a city class race at the deferred Caloundra Cup day meeting at the Sunshine Coast on July 11.

Eloquently has been flying under the radar behind star stable-mate Incentivise (pictured), who was one of the winter carnival discoveries, winning six races on the trot and is now being prepared for a Caulfield and Melbourne Cup campaign.

Tregea is hopeful Eloquently can match it with Miami Fleiss after drawing barrier eight.

“It will be interesting to see how she goes but I would have liked a better barrier,” Tregea said.

“There’s plenty of speed in the race which will suit us and she doesn’t have to lead.”

Eloquently is a full sister to the former Tregea-trained Rhyming, who was a three time winner and ran a close seventh in the 2017 Group 2 Queensland Guineas, which was won by the Jason Coyle-trained Salsonic.

Tregea has knocked back a big offer for Eloquently from a southern buyer and is keen to target the Queensland summer carnival with her.

“She’s got a good pedigree on the dam’s side and she’ll have one more run over 1300 metres next start before she spells to prepare for the summer carnival,” Tregea said.

Miami Fleiss, a daughter of Gollan’s former Group 1 winner Spirit Of Boom, won her first two starts in breathtaking fashion.

She then led and compounded to finish seventh to the Rex Lipp-trained Simply Fly in the QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast in March before Gollan turned her out for a spell.

Gollan has given Miami Fleiss a solid grounding for her return with a barrier trial at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.
