Lipp confident Barista won't spill the beans

Trainer Rex Lipp is hopeful the aptly named filly Bad Barista can end the winning streak of rival Eloquently at Doomben on Saturday.

Bad Barista, a James Orman mount, will lock horns with fellow Toowoomba filly Eloquently in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Handicap over 1300 metres.

The Steve Tregea-trained Eloquently is shooting for her sixth straight win after downing boom filly Miami Fleiss by more than two lengths over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Bad Barista produced a strong finish to just edge out the Kris Lees-trained Triple Ace over 1200 metres at Eagle Farm on July 17.

“Her last win start at Eagle Farm was very strong over 1200 metres and she’ll be suited stepping out to 1300 metres this time,” Lipp said

“I trained her mother, Sparkling Sound, and she was a useful performer who won six times.”

Bad Barista’s recent win was only her second in nine appearances at the races but Lipp has always had a strong opinion of the daughter of ill-fated Spill The Beans.

Spill The Beans was a Group 2 winning son of champion sire Snitzel, before he died suddenly at Aquis Park in the Gold Coast hinterland in 2019.

“I was very pleased with her last run when she needed the speed on so she could finish on,” Lipp said.

“She’s still learning and has to go to 1300 metres this time but I don’t think that’ll be a problem.”

Lipp is hopeful Bad Barista might measure up to a Stakes race during the summer and plans to tip her out for a short break after Saturday’s assignment.

“I’d like to think she could win a Stakes race during the summer if she keeps improving but, in the meantime, little fish are sweet,” he said.

Lipp has named Eloquently as Bad Barista’s main threat.

“Eloquently looks our danger but like my filly she’s got to go to 1300 metres as well,” he said.

Tregea always planned to back-up Eloquently, who showed she had a second string to her bow when she came from behind to win last start.

Tregea is likely to rest Eloquently after Saturday’s assignment and also aim for Stakes race during the Queensland summer carnival.

Lipp also will start Bad Barista’s half-sister, Baristasista, in the Two-Year-Old Handicap over 1200 metres on Saturday. 

A daughter of Spirit Of Boom, Baristasista broke through for her maiden win at her third start at Ipswich on July 8 before going down by less than one length when third in a 1200 metre Class 2 at the same track on July 23.
