Trainer Chris Anderson is hopeful a small field of seven runners will offset a lack of tempo as Profit attempts to end the trainer’s frustrating run of recent placings at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Anderson registered his last win with Kaaydeh at the Sunshine Coast on July 13 but since has had four minor placings, while he has finished fourth on another four occasions from his subsequent 12 starters.
Profit was one of those placings when he finished third to the Rob Heathcote-trained Emerald Kingdom at Eagle Farm on July 31.
Profit – a Jaden Lloyd mount – steps out in the Open Handicap over 1600 metres, with Anderson hopeful the extra trip will be more to his liking.
“The key to this horse is tempo and if he doesn’t get it, he’s vulnerable,” Anderson said.
“There doesn’t appear to be much tempo in this race on Saturday but it’s only a small field so he won’t be far off them in the run.
“I thought his last run over 1400 metres was terrific and getting back to 1600 metres will be more suitable.”
Anderson is likely to pull up stumps with Profit after his Eagle Farm assignment and target the summer carnival when the five-year-old returns to work.
“This is his fifth run in so I might back off him after this run and give him a short break before the summer,” he said.
