Trainer Stuart Kendrick is reluctant to separate promising gelding Hard Reyva and stablemate Bulloo in fear of a family stouch when the pair meet at Doomben on Wednesday.
Hard Reyva, an easy winner on debut on his home track at the Sunshine Coast on August 15 is set to clash with promising filly Bulloo in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 1 Plate over 1200 metres.
Hard Reyva was bought for $11,000 at an online sale by Kendrick’s son Nathan, who heads Krew Racing while his wife Trudy is a part-owner of Bulloo.
Bulloo has only had three starts winning on debut at the Sunshine Coast in April and returns to racing following her last start third to Tiger Heart in a 1400-metre two-year-old race on her home track in May.
“They’re both good chances but I can’t separate them for obvious reasons as my wife Trudy is a part-owner of Bulloo and my son Nathan bought Hard Reyva for $11,000 at Reva online sale,” Kendrick said.
Kendrick believes both have promising futures but Bulloo is still immature and could take time to fulfil her potential.
“Bulloo is out of a half-sister to Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way and we’re hoping she might develop into a Brisbane winter carnival horse next year,” Kendrick said.
“She’s a big gangly type and immature at this stage but she’s got plenty of scope and we hope she’ll measure up to something bigger later on.”
