Exciting prospect Prince Of Boom capped a big day for Queensland stallion Spirit Of Boom with a dominant all the way win in the $500,000 TAB 3YO QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Prince Of Boom never looked threatened over the 1200-metre trip, leading all the way to down Zuma California by two lengths.
Spirit Of Boom also sired She’sgottheboom, a brilliant winner of the QTIS 2YO Jewel over 1200 metres.
Spirit Of Boom won two Group 1 races for trainer Tony Gollan during his career and now stands at Eureka Stud on Queensland’s Darling Downs.
Prince Of Boom’s win ended Rob Heathcote’s luckless run at the Gold Coast, where he's had little success outside multiple Group 1 winner Buffering's win in the Magic Millions QTIS race at the Gold Coast in 2016.
“To be honest, without blowing my own trumpet, it’s good for racing to see good horses win,” Heathcote said.
“He’s a beautiful horse. Now you can understand why after those two runs behind Startantes who has gone on to be Group 1-placed, why I’ve always had such a massive opinion of him.
“To do what he did last year when he won a maiden and backed up six days later and win a Group 2 against some really good horses was amazing.”
Prince Of Boom won the Group 2 Champagne Classic at Doomben last May but later underwent throat surgery after twice running behind stablemate Startantes.
Since his return from surgery, Prince Of Boom is unbeaten after claiming the QTIS 3YO Jewel Prelude at Toowoomba, and now looks set to campaign in the TAB Queensland Racing Carnival.
