Trainer Rob Heathcote admits to making an error of judgement with Crymenotears and is hopeful the promising filly can continue her recent run of good form at Doomben on Saturday.
Heathcote, a five-time Brisbane premiership winner since he started training 25 years ago, has suddenly found the key to Crymenotears.
The daughter of Spill The Beans is seeking her third win from her past four starts in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1615 metres.
Although she’s stepping up to city grade, Heathcote is confident Crymenotears can be competitive again with apprentice Adin Thomson in the saddle.
Crymenotears is coming off a last start win over 1690 metres against her own age at Ipswich on March 24.
Heathcote admitted he considered Crymenotears purely a sprinter early in her career until he she won at the Sunshine Coast in early March.
Ridden by Ben Thompson that day, Crymenotears led all the way to win her first start over 1400 metres on the synthetic track.
Since then, she tried valiantly to lead all the way again over 1400 metres but was just pipped on the post by the John Hubbard-trained Kiss My Millo at the Gold Coast before breaking through for her third win in 14 starts at Ipswich.
