Racing Queensland confirms that the Brisbane Racing Club’s Doomben Cup race meeting which was rescheduled yesterday to Wednesday, May 25, has been abandoned.
The abandonment decision was made following further consistent rainfall (30mm) over the past 24 hours and the determination that irrespective of the weather over the next 72 hours, there is no possibility that the track will recover sufficiently for the race meeting to proceed.
RQ and the Brisbane Racing Club have re-programmed the following races to the Brisbane Racing Club race meeting at Eagle Farm on Saturday, May 28:
- Group 1 XXXX Doomben Cup – WFA - 2100m. Final acceptances for this race close at 9am, Tuesday, May 24;
- Group 2 ANZ Bloodstock News Roses - 3YO Fillies - 2100m. Fresh nominations called for and close 11am, Monday May 23; and
- Group 3 TAB BRC Sprint – Handicap - 1300m. Fresh nominations called for and close 11am, Monday May 23.
To facilitate the rescheduling of these races, it has been necessary to transfer two races from Derby Day (May 28) meeting:
- Benchmark 80 Handicap, $75,000 - 2200m - to Brisbane Racing Club meeting at Doomben, Monday, May 30; and
- Benchmark 85 Handicap, $75,000 - 1600m – to Brisbane Racing Club meeting at Doomben, Wednesday, June 1.
The Derby Day race meeting will now comprise a ten-race program.
The Listed City Property Services Bill Carter Stakes for 2YO Fillies (1200m) has also been rescheduled and will now be run at the Brisbane Racing Club meeting on Saturday, June 4.
Wednesday’s abandonment has also resulted in the requirement to re-program the following races to Saturday, July 9 at Doomben:
- Group 3 Magic Millions Pam O’Neill Stakes for Fillies & Mares - 1600m;
- Listed XXXX Chief De Beers Quality Handicap, 1110m, and
- Impressu Darby McCarthy 3YO (Set Weights) - 1110m.
The final programming amendment will result in the following two races from the original Brisbane Racing Club’s abandoned (May 21 and May 25) Doomben Cup meeting being transferred to the Sunshine Coast Turf Club race meeting on Friday, June 3:
- Benchmark 85 Handicap - 1200m - $75,000; and
- Benchmark 78 Handicap - 1600m - $75,000.
