Racing Queensland today confirmed details of the Bundaberg Greyhound Care Assistance Fund.
The fund will provide $40 a week in financial assistance for eligible locally trained greyhounds that will be unable to race locally as a consequence of track modification works that will be undertaken at Bundaberg in the immediate future.
To be eligible for assistance from the fund, greyhounds must have been trained in the Bundaberg region (defined as those areas within the postcodes 4570 to 4677) and have raced at Bundaberg at least once between April 1, 2022, and July 25, 2022, inclusive, whilst in the care of the local trainer.
RQ General Manager of Operations, Adam Wallish, said the Bundaberg Greyhound Care Assistance Fund reinforced RQ’s commitment to ensuring animal care remained at the core of its decision making process.
“The cessation of racing at Bundaberg will allow Racing Queensland to undertake vitally important modifications to aged racing infrastructure at the track.
“But during the construction period, locally trained greyhounds will not have a local racing option inside a six hour return journey.
“The assistance package provides a positive level of support to the racing greyhounds that will be impacted.”
