Racing Queensland is continuing to improve safety at venues for the racing community and patrons, with additional Automated External Defibrillators being rolled out to clubs across the state.
In May, Queensland racing clubs were invited to participate in the program, which has now seen over 100 defibrillators delivered.
Racing Queensland EGM Club Partnerships and Assets Melinda Martin said the uptake from clubs had been encouraging.
“Defibrillators have now been delivered to 103 clubs across Queensland,” Ms Martin said.
“Clubs have received an upgraded Zoll AED Plus Fully Automatic model, which will be easy to use for anyone who is required to operate one.
“This machine requires little maintenance and analyses a patient’s heart rhythm in seconds that delivers a customised shock for each patient.
“Step-by-step prompts are provided that guide the rescuer throughout the process.
“We are committed to improving the safety and wellbeing of all industry members and racegoers, and the roll-out of these devices will only strengthen that commitment.”
Goondiwindi Race Club President Maurice Hayes said the club was thrilled to be one of the first clubs on the roll out list.
“The arrival of this defibrillator is timely, especially given the fact we experienced an incident at the Picnic Races this year,” Mr Hayes said.
“You cannot include enough safety factors in this day and age when it comes to saving lives.
“It demonstrates the commitment of Racing Queensland to everyone’s safety as the defibrillator is a modern up-to-date version with automatic shock revivers.
“The defibrillator will be mounted in a secure box in the Kleinschmidt Room for easy public access and while we hope it is never used, it is great to know it is there should it be required.”
