Cairns Jockey Club meeting transferred

Racing Queensland confirms that an extension of the track renovation process at Cairns Jockey Club has rendered it necessary for the club’s November 5 TAB race meeting to be transferred.

Accordingly, the meeting has been moved to Innisfail Turf Club and as a by-product of that there has been some changes made to race distances on the program. They are:

  • Open Handicap – was 1250m, is now 1200m;              
  • Class 6 Plate – was 1400m, is now 1500m;              
  • Benchmark 70 Handicap – was 950m, is now 900m;              
  • Rating Band 0-60 Handicap - remains unchanged at 1500m;
  • Class 1 Handicap – was 950m, is now 900m;
  • Benchmark 55 Handicap – was 1250m, is now 1200m;
  • Maiden Handicap – was 1250m, is now 1200m; and 
  • QTIS 3YO Handicap – was 950m, is now 900m.

The race meeting will retain its apprentice claims status as ‘Country’ and the minimum handicap weight applicable to it will now be 55kg (as opposed to 54kg previously).

Trainers should also note that nominations already transacted for the race meeting at Cairns will be automatically transferred to the Innisfail meeting. 

if trainers have already processed nominations for Cairns but wish to withdraw as a result of the meeting’s transfer, then please contact Racing Australia to do so.
