Racing Queensland will continue on its path to reconciliation with the launch of a new online resource hub.

The hub features a number of important tools that contribute to RQ’s journey towards reconciliation, including its:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan;
  • First Nations Strategy;
  • Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Employment Strategy;
  • Racing For Reconciliation video series; and
  • First Nations Careers page.

The page also features a photo gallery, a list of club locations with traditional names and a contact page.

The new Racing For Reconciliation series will showcase and highlight the state’s Indigenous participants, as they speak about their experiences, and how more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can be brought into the industry.

“As one of the Sunshine State’s largest employers, providing close to 16,000 full-time jobs and $2.4 billion to the state economy, our goal is to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the industry more broadly,” RQ Indigenous Program Lead Bart Watson said.

“RQ’s vision for reconciliation is to create a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples connect with local communities through great racing events across the breadth of the Sunshine State and experience the thrill of racing as attendees, industry participants or employees.

“Our First Nations hub is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the rich history in racing, and we hope it serves as a valuable tool as we continue our reconciliation journey.”

Unveiled in line with its 2024 NAIDOC Week activities, RQ's First Nations Strategy was developed to fulfil a range of objectives that encompass:

  • Cultural safety and capability;
  • Excellence and equity;
  • Community engagement, and
  • Sense of belonging.

The strategy aligns with the organisation's vision of creating a more inclusive, diverse, and respectful environment that benefits both its employees and the broader communities it serves, with particular emphasis on Indigenous populations.

Similarly, RQ’s Reconciliation Action Plan demonstrates the organisation’s formal commitment to reconciliation, providing a strong foundation for long-term change and an avenue to impact our sphere of influence.

RQ’s Employment Strategy underlines its commitment to progress in the area of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment.

Through this strategy, RQ aims to ease the disadvantage experienced by members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in employment.
