Winning form is the best form, so the old catch cry goes.
That’s generally the case except in a raffle of mostly unraced two-year-olds which will take place at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Cuddles For Kimmy lines up in the QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap over the 1000 metre dash as the only horse with winning race experience.
It occurred when she made a successful debut over 1050 metres at Doomben on October 16 when she downed the Donna Stanbridge-trained Secret Sort.
The daughter of Spirit Of Boom was held up for a run until well in the straight but quickly put paid to her opposition once in the clear to win by almost a length.
Cuddles For Kimmy is named after Kim Webster, wife of breeder Murray Webster, who runs Hopetoun Farm outside Toowoomba and is trained by Kylie and Corey Geran.
Corey Geran was full of praise for Cuddles For Kimmy’s win and is hopeful she can maintain her unbeaten record.
“It was a great ride from Cody Collis after she was boxed in on the fence and it was pretty scary at the time as I thought she wouldn’t win,” Corey said.
“I was confident before the race she could win but I was always a bit hesitant as a lot of things can go wrong with two-year-olds.
“For her to get out like she did and find clear air, it showed her win was very good.”
Cuddles For Kimmy has a minor foot deformity and was passed in at the Magic Millions yearling sales.
“She didn’t make her reserve at the sales because she’s got a club foot,” Corey said.
“It hasn’t bothered her one bit and it hasn’t had any impact on her whatsoever.”
Corey is hopeful Cuddles For Kimmy can make it to the $3 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
“Because she was passed in, I don’t think she was paid up for the Magic Millions so she’ll need to win one of those qualifying races like the Bruce McLachlan to get into the Magic Millions,” Corey said.
“I don’t know anything about her opposition on Saturday and I don’t know who are her dangers.
“It’s still early in the season for two-year-olds but she’s got loads of ability and if she can win again, I’ll ease her up and target some of the stakes races which lead up to the Magic Millions.
“I had her in last Saturday but scratched her when she drew wide at Doomben and I’m keen to run her this week as she’s improved a lot and is eating well.”
