Racing Queensland has met with representatives of the Bundaberg Greyhound Racing Club in relation to its grass track.
Late last week, RQ reaffirmed with club representatives of its ongoing concerns with the suitability of the venue, which has been offline since late September, and has now advised that meetings will no longer be programmed on its current grass track.
Presently, Bundaberg is the only two-turn grass track in Queensland, with sand deemed to present a more consistent racing surface.
The State Government has committed to conducting a comprehensive review into Queensland’s racing industry this year. It will focus on the long-term viability of all codes and venues across the state.
The review will consider all options including the previously announced sand conversion of the track in Bundaberg.
RQ will continue to support Bundaberg trainers with travel subsidies for those participating at other Queensland venues.
From the beginning of February, RQ will increase this payment to $120 per travelling trainer.
