Racing Queensland will bolster its support of the Queensland Greyhound Racing Club ahead of the opening of The Q.

With the world-class greyhound venue poised to commence trialling next month, RQ CEO Jason Scott will help oversee the day-to-day running of the QGRC from next week, with additional RQ staff deployed to assist with back-of-house operations.

Dale Cartwright, who has served as a code director on the RQ Board for the past nine years, will also assist Mr Scott as a special advisor.

The assistance comes following the resignation of QGRC CEO Peter Gleeson, who concluded his tenure earlier this week, and ahead of critically important milestones at The Q including the commencement of trialling, the completion of the main grandstand and building, and completion of the car parks, entry points and external works.

RQ Chair Steve Wilson AM said the organisation’s support package demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the Queensland greyhound industry.

“The Q is a game changer for the Queensland greyhound industry,” Mr Wilson said.

“We firmly believe it will be the best greyhound facility in the world, and with the project nearing its completion, there are a number of critical milestones that are fast approaching and Jason is best served to help deliver them from here.

“He will be strongly supported by Dale and the broader RQ team so we can commence trialling on all three tracks before our attentions turn to the first race meeting at the venue.

“It’s an incredibly exciting time for the code, nothing like The Q has ever been built, and we are well positioned to welcome greyhound enthusiasts from Queensland, Australia and across the globe.”

RQ Chief Financial and Strategy Officer Lachlan Murray will serve as Acting CEO while Mr Scott is seconded to the QGRC.
