Racing Queensland has advised that today’s The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions meeting will be transferred to Aquis Park on Thursday.
Following the opening two races on the card, the meeting was postponed due to wet weather and poor visibility following 14mm of unforecast rain since 3am.
The remaining eight races including the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas will be staged at the Gold Coast on Thursday, January 19 and will be broadcast through Channel 7 and Sky Racing.
RQ CEO Brendan Parnell said following discussions with representatives from the training and jockey ranks, along with the GCTC, Magic Millions and Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards, Thursday was identified as the best solution for the re-scheduled program with further rain forecast for tomorrow.
“The Magic Millions is an iconic Gold Coast meeting and deserves to be run at the venue next week,” Mr Parnell said.
“With the forecast improving throughout the week, the decision to conduct the meeting on Thursday will provide further time for the track to dry but the safety of our participants is always paramount.
“The re-development of the Gold Coast Turf Club including the course proper will assist future editions of the Magic Millions.”
The 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will continue tonight before concluding with book two on Monday.
