The greyhound LITTLE RAMONA was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.  When questioned Trainer Ms. M Johnson stated that LITTLE RAMONA was returning from being injured at its previous race start on 29 February 2016.  The greyhound had trialled well leading up into today’s race and she was expecting a forward showing.  She stated that after receiving a check entering the back straight LITTLE RAMONA is not a strong greyhound and was effected by that interference.  Whilst the greyhound finished in last position she was not disappointed with its overall performance.

Ms. M Johnson the trainer of KNAVE stated that KNAVE was returning to race after it was injured at its previous start on 17 March 2016 where it has split its webbing.  She stated that KNAVE had trailled well over the 395m distance and was expecting a forward showing.  She further stated that the greyhound would benefit from today’s run and it will be her intention to step it up to the 520m distance in the near future.  Stewards noted her explanation however, advised her that they expect KNAVE to race over a consistent distance in the near future.

GARRARD’S HORSE & HOUND 5th GRADE HEAT 3 395M

FABULOUS WALL was best to begin.  AZTEC FLASH was extremely slow to begin.  Approaching the turn into the back straight BAZZA’S ISSUE, MAGIC PASS and OBIN TOMMY were all tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground.  AZTEC FLASH raced wide in the back straight.  Rounding the turn into the front straight AZTEC FLASH was held up for clear running and short after bumped OBIN TOMMY.

The greyhound AZTEC FLASH was vetted and no apparent injuries were found.  Trainer Mrs. K Hoggan when questioned over its performance stated that AZTEC FLASH was very excitable prior to the race and appeared to be fractious when placed in the boxes which may have contributed to its poor start.  She stated that once the greyhound had missed the start and received an early check from BAZZA’S ISSUE in her view directly affected its racing position and therefore where it finished in the event.  She further stated that AZTEC FLASH had been returning to race since the previous start on the 27 January 2016 due to some minor injury and she was satisfied that the greyhound was fit to race and expected a forward showing in today’s event.  She stated that AZTEC FLASH is a greyhound that finishes on in its races and will benefit from today’s event.  Stewards noted Mrs. Hoggan’s explanation.
