ARCHIE MARSHALL and EYE LIKE CAKE were both best to begin, with EARLY SETTLER and BAN CHI BABY slow.  At the 1st turn, ARCHIE MARSHALL and EYE LIKE CAKE bumped.  Shortly after, EARTH SHAKE was tightened for racing room, shifted out and collided with SILVER LUX, causing both greyhounds to lose considerable ground.  EARLY SETTLER, NITRO NORMA and GITCHA DESTINY raced tight at the top turn, with EARLY SETTLER advancing on the inside resulting in NITRO NORMA and GITCHA DESTINY to be hampered, shift out and lose ground.  ARCHIE MARSHALL and EYE LIKE CAKE, which were trailing, were severely impeded as a result, causing ARCHIE MARSHALL to fall and take no further competitive part in the race, and GITCHA DESTINY and EYE LIKE CAKE to lose substantial ground.  EARTH SHAKE, which was trailing, was also severely inconvenienced and lost considerable ground as a result.

Stewards’ spoke with licensed trainer, Mr C Cassidy, in relation to the support that the greyhound EARLY SETTLER received in the 1st race.  Mr Cassidy stated that the greyhound had trialled well at Ipswich 2 weeks prior, and that he had supported the greyhound today and was confident considering it drew the box 1. Mr CASSIDY further stated the greyhound is a dog that enjoys racing to the rails which made him even more confident in today’s race.

The greyhound ARCHIE MARSHALL underwent a post race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

The greyhound GITCHA DESTINY underwent a post race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.
