General: The Ipswich Greyhound Racing Club advised stewards’ that the track surface was power harrowed on Monday, 25 February 2019.
Capalaba 24 February 2019: Race 11: CAPALABA GREYHOUNDS ON INSTAGRAM GRADE 5 – 366m Trainer S. Lawrence advised stewards’ on Tuesday, 26 February 2019 that since its run, MAHONEY had showed signs of a strain to the stomach muscles and would be spelled for some time to allow a full recovery. ______________________________
Race 1: GREYHOUND ADOPTION PROGRAM MAIDEN HEAT (1) – 431m JUST FOR JAKE began awkwardly and THREE HORN was slow to begin. Shortly after the start IT ALL CHEEKY and LOZIN’ MUST bumped. Approaching the first turn BIG MOUTH and SYDNEY GOLD bumped. Entering the first turn IT ALL CHEEKY, LOZIN’ MUST, BIG MOUTH, and SYDNEY GOLD were all tightened for racing room and checked to varying degrees. BEAUTIFUL NIGHT, which was racing to their outside, was severely checked, fell and took no further part in the event. THREE HORN and JUST FOR JAKE, which were trailing, were checked as a consequence. Entering the back straight JUST FOR JAKE checked off heels, shifted out wide and lost ground. Leaving the back straight, THREE HORN checked off heels. In the home straight THREE HORN and SYDNEY GOLD bumped and lost ground.
BEAUTIFUL NIGHT underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no abnormalities were found. Trainer R. Peschke advised stewards that in light of todays’ fall, he will endeavour to trial the greyhound prior to nominating for future events.
Race 2: SKY RACING MAIDE HEAT (1) – 431m PRETTY WOMAN, SHIAN RUSTY and PETRIE TAIL were slow to begin. At the start, CUNNAMULLA FELLA shifted outwards and bumped with FORREST NOVA. Entering the first turn EARTH SHAKE was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground. CAWBOURNE IMOGEN, which was trailing, was checked as a consequence. Entering the back straight, PETRIE TAIL checked off heels. EARTH SHAKE raced wide from the back straight and rounding the turn into the home straight.
Stewards’ advised Mr G. Carrington, the kennel representative of CUNNAMULLA FELLA, of their concerns with the action of that greyhound at the start of the race when jumping from the boxes. When reviewing the race footage, stewards’ were of the opinion that the greyhound had jumped away with the anticipation of sighting the lure immediately adjacent to the starting boxes however, once observing the lure was in a position in front of the field, re-corrected its direction before bumping with FORREST NOVA. After considering the matter, stewards’ could not be comfortably satisfied that the greyhound had offended under any rule, in particular GAR69 (Marring) or GAR69A (Failing to Pursue), and gave it the benefit of doubt.
Race 3: WWW.IPSWICHGREYHOUNDS.COM MAIDEN FINAL – 431m BOTANIC MISTRESS was slow to begin. Shortly after the start SPUR ON bumped with INVERGARRY ANGEL and lost ground. Through the first turn CAWBOURNE ANSON and INVERGARRY ANGEL collided and were checked. SPUR ON, which was trailing, was checked and lost ground as a consequence. Entering the back straight GOTCHA GIFT shifted out and collided with ALPHA ALINA resulting in that runner to be forced out onto TICK FIRE BOOM. ALPHA ALINA was severely checked and lost considerable ground, and TICK FIRE BOOM was checked and lost ground, as a result of this incident. Leaving the back straight TICK FIRE BOOM and LADYLIKE GRACE were tightened for racing room and checked. Through the turn into the front straight INVERGARRY ANGEL checked off heels.
Race 4: ALPHA 390 FINANCE NOVICE – 431m At the start ZABDON HOUDINI, CALL ME CANDY and CELTIC FEAR all bumped and were momentarily hampered. Entering the first turn CALL ME CANDY collided with CELTIC FEAR resulting in both runners to be severely checked and to lose considerable ground. UNIQUE LEIGH, which was racing to their outside, was checked as a consequence. Leaving the back straight IMMORTAL MAN and WHATTA STORM were tightened for racing room and checked. ZABDON HOUDINI, which was trailing, was checked as a consequence. Through the turn into the home straight WHATTA STORM and ZABDON HOUDINI bumped and were momentarily hampered. UNIQUE LEIGH, which was trailing, checked off those runners heels and lost ground. Rounding the turn into the home straight PATRICK GEORGE and MALLY’S NOVA raced wide.
CELTIC FEAR underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no abnormalities were found.
Race 5: DOVER & SONS GRADE 5 – 431m Approaching the first turn HIFI SHIAN and ROSDUE MATAO were tightened for racing room and checked. Entering the first turn SPRING FESTIVAL, COUNT WERINA and LANARK BLUE were tightened for racing room and checked. Rounding the turn into the back straight LANARK BLUE improved onto the heels of ALPHA HYMEH and BEUA’S IMAGE resulting in all three runners to be severely checked and to lose considerable ground. COUNT WERINA collided with HIFI SHIAN, when shifting out to avoid the heels of LANARK BLUE, resulting in both runners to be checked and to lose ground.
Race 6: TREMBATH TIRE REPAIRS MIXED 4/5 – 431m Shortly after the start ONE WHISPER checked off heels. Through the first turn SPRING THIEF, THAT HOUDINI, and ONE WHISPER were all tightened for racing room and checked to varying degrees. Entering the back straight FERNVALE RUBY was tightened for racing room, severely checked and lost considerable ground. Leaving the back straight SPRING THIEF and PAWFECTION were tightened for racing room with PAWFECTION being checked and losing ground, and SPRING THIEF being severely checked and losing considerable ground. KYLE THE TANK and ONE WHISPER, which were trailing, were checked as a consequence.
Race 7: JOHN YOUNG MEMORIAL IPS 520 HEAT (1) – 520m ROSDUE KIRRA was marginally slow to begin. In the front straight on the first occasion, LILLY PILLY LASS and BLUE JILLEM bumped. Entering the turn out of the front straight LILLY PILLY LASS was tightened for racing room and checked. Rounding the turn into the home straight ONE FOR MICK was bumped by another runner and momentarily hampered. BIG LITTLE LIES, which was racing to its outside, shifted out and raced wide rounding the turn.
Race 8: JOHN YOUNG MEMORIAL IPS 520 HEAT (2) – 520m STRAIT RUM was slow to begin. In the front straight on the first occasion RED HOT GOSSIP was tightened for racing room and momentarily hampered. Through the turn into the back straight DOUBLE SPUR became momentarily unbalanced and lost ground. Rounding the turn into the back straight ROSDUE SHAKA was tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground. Entering the back straight OFF THE DECK was bumped by another runner and lost ground.
DOUBLE SPUR underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained an injury to the stomach muscles. A 21 day stand down period was imposed.
Race 9: WHITE ROSE BOARDING KENNELS GRADE 5 – 431m At the start ROSDUE MISTY was tightened for room and checked. Entering the first turn LA BAMBA and DARBY’S GIRL were tightened for racing room, checked and lost ground. CAWBOURNE FAWNY, which was trailing, improved onto the heels of DARBY’S GIRL and was checked as a consequence. In the back straight DARBY’S GIRL raced wide. Leaving the back straight, DODGY ETHAN shifted inwards and contact the heels of VELOCITY LINDER, resulting in that runner to be momentarily hampered. In the home straight DARBY’S GIRL raced wide.
Race 10: WWW.IPSWICHGREYHOUNDS.COM GRADE 5 – 431m SPRING RITCHIE was very slow to begin. Shortly after the start PARRIS QUEEN and PATCHE DE KAHN was tightened for racing room and checked. PARRIS QUEEN lost considerable ground as a result of this incident. Rounding the turn into the back straight PATCHE DE KAHN was bumped by another runner and lost ground. Leaving the back straight WILLY TOULA was tightened for racing room and hampered. Shortly after, MASTER DEAN took an awkward stride and commenced to give ground. Rounding the turn into the home straight, MASTER DEAN was bumped by another runner and checked.
MASTER DEAN underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained an injury to the nearside wrist. A 14 day stand down period was imposed. ___________________________ Race day Summary
