Steward panel S Barr, N Thorneycroft & W Maher concluded the Stewards’ Inquiry convened on 10 August 2024 involving trainer Marie Westwood in which Stewards placed a condition upon Ms Westwood’s licence pursuant to Greyhounds Australasia Rule 46(6) restricting Ms Westwood from boxing any greyhounds pending the outcome of the Stewards’ Inquiry. On 26 August 2024, Stewards directed that Ms Westwood complete two (2) trial sessions under the supervision of Stewards and under the guidance of an industry professional, together with ten (10) separate and consecutive Stewards’ trials to the satisfaction of the Stewards, prior to the licence restriction being removed, with an additional condition being placed on Ms Westwood’s licence that she be restricted from boxing any greyhound with a “hard to box” embargo. Ms Westwood was advised of her right to appeal the decision.

 

 

Race 1 - TAB VENUE MODE MAIDEN 2 520m

 

1 Red Rudolph – Turned its head towards the outside shortly after the start.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.  Steward’s spoke to trainer M.Mackowiecki regarding the greyhound’s racing manners. After considering all available evidence, Stewards invoked GAR 124 Fail to pursue (1st offence) – 28 days stand down at Ipswich and must complete a satisfactory steward’s trial prior to racing next.

 

2 Azir – Severely checked becoming unbalanced entering the back turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

 

3 Somerset Jesse – Eased and turned its head to the outside taking its attention away from the lure through the back turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the nearside forelimb and under the provisions of GAR 41(1) the greyhound has been stood down for 10 days. Steward’s spoke to trainer K.Donaldson regarding the greyhound’s racing manners. After considering all available evidence, Stewards invoked GAR 125 Fail to pursue by reason of injury – 10 days stand down at Ipswich and must complete a satisfactory steward’s trial prior to racing next.

 

8 Disturbed – Beaten favourite.  Severely checked and became unbalanced entering the back turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

 

Race 2 - RUSSELL ROBERTS MEMORIAL MAIDEN FINAL MAIDEN 2 520m

5 Stepney Green – Severely checked and fell entering the first turn taking no further competitive part in the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

 

Race 7 - CENTURY POOLS GRADE 5 (2) 2 520m

Race 8 - CHASE NEWSPAPER 5TH GRADE FINAL GRADE 5 2 520m

 

3 Punchy – Severely checked entering the first turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

 

7 Open Jewel – Severely checked entering the first turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the nearhind limb and under the provisions of GAR 41(1) the greyhound has been stood down for 5 days.  

 

Race 9 - GREYHOUND GEAR MIXED 4/5 2 520m

 

1 Kushti Bok – Checked entering the back straight, checked off heels entering the back turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

 

Race 10 - M & K BUTCHERS 5PW 2 520m

 

5 Bell Mac Prince - Late scratching at 4:18pm pursuant to GAR 92(2) when the greyhound was found to have an injury to the offhind limb during kennelling, the greyhound has been stood down for 3 days.

 

6 Pure Penny – Checked entering the back straight.   A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the nearside forelimb and under the provisions of GAR 41(1) the greyhound has been stood down for 7 days.

 

Race 11 – TAB MIXED 4/5 2 431m

 

No matters of concern to Stewards.

 

Race 12 – QGRC GRADE 5 2 431m

 

1 Some Diva – Looked awkward in its action through the back turn.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the nearhind limb and under the provisions of GAR 41(1) the greyhound has been stood down for 10 days.
