General: QRIC Stewards toady gave consideration to a request of review from trainer Phillip Sears in relation to the findings that when presented to race at the Rockhampton Greyhound Racing Club meeting held on 1st March 2023, that Crème De Monte, when examined by the attending veterinary officer prior to racing, was found to be in season and subsequently scratched from it’s engagement and stood down from racing for 28 days. Considering the submissions made by the trainer, the veterinary certificate provided by Dr Susan Connor from Alma Street Veterinary Hospital, which stated Crème De Monte was not showing signs of being in season when presented on the 6th March 2023 and taking into account the original veterinary report, stewards could not be satisfied that the veterinary report from the Alma Street Veterinary Clinic displaced the findings of Dr Bridgit Newman after the examination conducted on the night in question, therefore the original findings and penalty stand down of 28 days would remain in place. In assessing the request, stewards were mindful of the Victorian Racing Tribunals (VRT) findings in the matters of Kate Gath (26 March 2020) and Alex Ashwood (27 November 2020) where subsequent veterinary examinations revealed contrary findings to the original examinations conducted on the day when racing animals competed. The wording of both these decisions makes it abundantly clear that a second and subsequent examination post the day that an animal competes, does not negate nor displace the original findings reported on the day of the race.
Licensed Trainer Steven Boody pleaded guilty to charge under the terms of GAR145(1) for treating his greyhound Guru Bart prior to the running of Race 7 at Callaghan Park on Wednesday 8th March 2023 with Colloidal Silver in the emptying out yard. Stewards determined an appropriate penalty to be a fine of $1000.00 trainer Steven Boody was advised of his rights to an internal review.
