Race Meeting Stewards’ Report

Townsville Greyhounds

General:

Stewards inquired into an incident in the catching pen following the completion of Race 8 involving trainer Mr P. Smith and handler Mr D. Wooler.

Evidence was taken from both Mr Smith and Mr Wooler and from Stewards observations, resulting in both Mr Smith and Mr Wooler being charged under the provisions of GAR 86 (o) which states:-

            “Any person shall be guilty of an offence if the person has, in relation to a greyhound or greyhound racing, done a thing, or omitted to do a thing, which, in the opinion of the Stewards or the Controlling Body, as the case may be, is negligent, dishonest, corrupt, fraudulent or improper, or constitutes misconduct.”

The specifics of the charge being that Mr Smith and Mr Wooler acted in a manner in the catching pen following the completion of race 8 which, in the opinion of the Stewards, was improper.

Both Mr Smith and Mr Wooler pleaded guilty to the charge and addressed the Stewards in relation to penalty. 

In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the involvement of both parties in greyhound racing and their past history in the industry and issued a fine of $200 to both Mr Smith and Mr Wooler and further directed that the fine be totally suspended for a period of 6 months.

4 Mamma's Gold – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

5 Jump Like One – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight. 

6 Wahroonga – Slow to begin.  Raced wide in the front straight.

7 Goddess Of Speed – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

8 El Bakarly – Raced wide in the front straight.

Race 2 - GARRARDS HORSE & HOUND NOVICE 380m

2 Blinding Lights – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.

6 Velocity Larni – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

Race 3 - BURDEKIN VETERINARY SERVICES GRADE 5 (1) 380m

Trainer J. Forster was fined $50 under the provisions of GAR 86 (o), negligent, for presenting Twice the Size to race with the incorrect rug.

4 Twice The Size – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Shifted out to race wide into the front straight.

6 I'm Demanding - Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

Race 4 - BOHLE BARN HOTEL MOTEL GRADE 5 (2) 380m

1 Grand Mime – Raced wide over the concluding stages of the race.

3 Man At Arms – Marginally slow to begin.

4 Diva Valentine – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.

6 Heza Rapscallion – Slow to begin.

7 Little Red Wagon – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.

Race 5 - MICHAEL PANDELAKIS 3/4 GRADE HEAT 1 MIXED 3/4 380m

4 Editor – Tightened for racing room shortly after the start.

5 Well Indeed – Checked off another runner shortly after the start.  Checked off another runner in the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.  Raced wide over the concluding stages of the race.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

8 White Fernando – Raced wide into the front straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained an injury to the off hind muscle and was stood down for a period of 10 days.

Race 6 - CHEAPA AUTO SPARES 3/4 GRADE HEAT 2 MIXED 3/4 380m

1 Madness – Shifted out and bumped another runner entering the front straight.

4 Flying Tornado – Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.  Bumped by another runner and became unbalanced entering the front straight.

5 Shake Up – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

6 John Strachin – Tightened for racing room shortly after the start.  Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

7 What Expiry – Checked off another runner shortly after the start.

Race 7 - TAB TOWNSVILLE FUTURITY FINAL OPEN 498m

2 Mali's Rocket – Checked off another runner and became unbalanced shifting out bumping another runner on the turn into the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

4 Go Molly Go – Checked off another runner entering the back straight.

6 She's Sassy – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

7 Bubbles And Brie – Raced wide in the front straight

8 Twenty Dollars – Bumped, forced wide became unbalanced and checked by another runner on the turn into the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

9 Bea The Queen – Checked off another runner entering the back straight.   Checked off another runner in the back straight.

Race 8 - TAB TOWNSVILLE DERBY FINAL OPEN 498m

3 Stratford – Bumped and tightened for racing room shortly after the start.

4 Major Gibson – Bumped and tightened for racing room shortly after the start.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

5 Blackened – Bumped and tightened for racing room shortly after the start.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

6 Max The Maniac – Bumped and tightened for racing room shortly after the start.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

7 Gold Assassin – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight,

Race 9 - METROLL FFA 498m

1 Super Hard – Checked from behind by another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

4 Tipsy Four – Checked off heels on the turn into the front straight.

Race 10 - G.B.D CONCRETE SERVICES GRADE 5 (3) 380m

4 Fabio Flash – Tightened for racing room in the back straight.

5 Chisel Nibbs – Checked off another runner in the back straight.

7 Sir Suave – Checked off another runner in the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn into the front straight.

10 Twisted Crystal – Tightened for racing room in the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

Race 11 - DAN THE PAINTER MAN GRADE 5 (4) 380m

1 Prawn Boat – Checked from behind by another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

2 Hara's Slade – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

3 Brocky – Marginally slow to begin.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained bruising to the near hind leg and was stood down for a period of 10 days.

8 Rocket Jax – Checked off another runner and almost fell on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinarian examination and no apparent injuries were found.

Race 12 - ALL RIG LIFTING AND ENGINEERING GRADE 5 (5) 380m

9 Nordic Prince – Slow to begin.
