General:

Stewards continued the inquiry opened on 10 September 2021 in relation to race day treatment of the greyhound What A Bomber trained by A. Gosper.

After hearing further evidence from Mr Gosper, Stewards issued a charged under the provisions of GAR 83A.1 which reads:-

“No person without the permission of the Stewards may administer or cause to be administered any treatment to a greyhound at any time on the day of the meeting until that greyhound is no longer presented for an Event.”

The specifics of the charge being that Arthur Gosper, the trainer of the greyhound What A Bomber, did administer substances unknown to What A Bomber on 10 September 2021 who was to compete in Race 7 at the Townsville Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting on 10 September 2021.

Mr Gosper pleaded guilty to the charge and addressed the Stewards on penalty.  Subsequently Mr Gosper was fined $1000 and advised of his right of an internal review.

Trainer J. Schafer was reminded of the dress code standards at a TAB race meeting.

Race 1 – TAB MAIDEN 380m

2 Evil Mario – Checked off another runner and fell on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

5 Sonic Blue – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

6 Wahroonga Girl – Tightened for racing room in the back straight.

8 Kay Sherar – Checked by another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

9 Barry Cool (1) – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

Race 2 - LOVESY & WAWA NOVICE (1) 380m

2 Stressful Nut – Contacted the running rail prior to entering the catching pen.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

4 Anahera - Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

10 Endless Summer (6) – Checked off another runner and fell on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

Race 3 - NQ MARINA FRESH SEAFOOD NOVICE (2) 380m

3 Piazza Rotonda – Slow to begin.  Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

4 Sixty Dollars – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

5 Wasteman Wayne – Stewards questioned the racing manners of the greyhound in particular turning into the front straight.  Subsequently Stewards acting under the provisions of GAR 126 stood the greyhound down from racing for a period of 28 days and the completion of a satisfactory trial for marring.

Race 4 - CIGNALL GARBUTT GRADE 5 (1) 380m

2 Laffey's Beach – Slow to begin.

4 Seat's Taken – Checked across heels on the turn into the front straight.

7 Carrow Road – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

9 La La Jersey (8) – Bumped another runner shortly after the start.

10 Midnight Holly (3) – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

Race 5 - MATTHEW ASHELFORD MIXED 4/5 498m

1 Hidden Haze – Tightened for racing room on the turn into the back straight.

4 More Sensation – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

7 At The Office – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

8 Hunter Street – Checked off another runner in the back straight.

Race 6 - TOWNSVILLE WILDCARD HEAT 1 OPEN 498m

4 Henryk Bale – Tightened for racing room on the turn into the back straight.  Shifted out and bumped another runner over the concluding stages of the race.

7 Sleek Rumble – Bumped and checked off another runner over the concluding stages of the race.

8 Young Rob – Checked across heels on the turn into the front straight.

Race 7 - TOWNSVILLE WILDCARD HEAT 2 OPEN 498m

1 Redemption Day – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

5 Lagoon Samuel – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained an injury to the left hind muscle and was stood down for a period of 10 days.

6 Amarillo Slim - Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

Race 8 - TOWNSVILLE WILDCARD HEAT 3 OPEN 498m

1 Savage Victor – Checked off another runner entering the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injuries were found.

4 Stratford – Checked off another runner on the turn into the back straight.

8 Mali's Whitey – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Trainer H. Ardle was fined $100 under the provisions of GAR 99 for failing to have a catcher present in the catching pen for the greyhound.

Race 9 - LACHLAN ALBION BEST 8 380m

1 Jackie Chiles – Slow to begin.  Checked off another runner approaching the turn out of the back straight.

2 Aston Mireya – Slow to begin. Bumped another runner approaching the turn out of the back straight.   Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight. 

4 Aston Rupiah – Bumped another runner approaching the turn out of the back straight. 

8 New To Me – Slow to begin.

Race 10 - JEFF LYNCH MIXED 4/5 380m

5 Limitless Speed – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

7 Captain Turbot – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

8 Impress Troy – Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have sustained an injury to the right hind muscle and was stood down for a period of 10 days.

Race 11 - MAGIC CARPET CLEANING & RESTORATION GRADE 5 (2) 380m

1 Aston Mateo – Slow to begin.  Checked across heels on the turn into the front straight.

3 Iron Lad – Checked off another runner in the back straight.

5 Danni's On Fire – Checked off another runner in the back straight.  Checked off another runner on the turn out of the back straight.

6 Riding Hood – Checked off another runner in the back straight.

8 Fever Lee – Checked from behind by another runner on the turn into the front straight.
