Race 1: Cyclone Built QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – SALMON ROE 2nd – PHANTOM SOX 3rd – CIDARIS 4th – SHADOW MOUNTAIN

DECLAN STYLE – Broke through the barriers cantering approximately 500 metres prior to being apprehended by the Clerk of the Course. The colt was subsequently inspected by the Veterinarian and was passed fit to start. Was slow to begin shifting out abruptly on jumping.

RAKADAN – Pulled away from Barrier Attendant when being loaded dislodging bridle. Inspected by the Veterinarian and passed fit to start. Was fractious in the barriers.

SHADOW MOUNTAIN – Was inclined to race ungenerously near the 800 metres when awkwardly placed between runners.

MONASHEE LASS – Was inclined to race ungenerously for a short distance near the 400 metres.

JOHNNY FIX IT – Jockey S Wilson reported that the gelding which was having its first start was inclined to race greenly throughout.

Following the running of this event Stewards spoke with Starter Mr R Gardiner in relation to the inordinate length of time that the majority of runners were in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Mr Gardiner advised that during the loading process he had lost contact with Stewards and was unable to communicate difficulties he was experiencing in attempting to refit a bridle to RAKADAN. This situation was exacerbated by the minor delay caused due to DECLAN STYLE breaking through the barriers and having to be examined by the veterinarian prior to being reloaded.

Race 2: Tableland Veterinary Service Class B Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – LADY OF THE LAW 2nd – LA JINETA 3rd – MINNIE STREET 4th – FAST ANNIE

FAST ANNIE – Reared in barriers. Was inclined to extremely ungenerously with its head in the air in the early and middle stages placing App S Wiseman at a distinct disadvantage. Trainer Mr B Furber advised Stewards that he intends to implement a gear change prior to the mare’s next start. Nonetheless Stewards advised Mr Furber that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.

STARLIGHT BELLE – Was slowly into stride.

CHRISTMAS VAMPIRE – Bumped with another runner soon after the start.

MAN OF BUSINESS – Was inclined to race ungenerously after bumping with another runner soon after the start. Was inclined to hang in down the running. Travelled wide for the majority of the event.


Race 3: McDowall Mechanical & Pastoral Services Pty Ltd Benchmark 65
Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – PRIME SHADOW 2nd – ISADORE AMORE 3rd – SLIPNOT 4th – LEGENDARY PLUME

After being placed in the barriers BAZZA’S BID broke through the front gates and galloped riderless for 1000 metres. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of BAZZA’S BID at 2:06pm. The gelding was inspected by the Veterinarian post-race as a precaution and no abnormalities were detected.

After being placed in the barriers DESTRUCTION which had been reluctant to load reared on several occasions and became cast. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DESTRUCTION at 2:13pm. The gelding was inspected by the Veterinarian post-race as a precaution and no abnormalities were detected. Trainer Mr F Wieland was advised that the gelding must obtain one (1) barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on BAZZA’S BID and DESTRUCTION be refunded in full and that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to 2:06pm be subject to deductions of 35 cents win and 30 cents place on the face value of the betting ticket and that further deductions of 19 cents win and 16 cents place on the face value of the betting ticket be applied to all successful wagers placed between 2:06pm and 2:13pm.

SIGNIFICANT CHOICE – Was slowly into stride.

LEGENDARY PLUME – Bumped with another runner soon after the start.

PRIME SHADOW – Bumped with another runner soon after the start.

Race 4: Tonkin Steel Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – WILL HE FLY 2nd – MAN AROUND TOWN 3rd – ROUND THE CORNER 4th – PEMBERTON

POPULAR BELIEF – Was fractious in the barriers. Was slowly into stride after jumping awkwardly.

HOW ABOUT ME – Was slowly into stride.

WILL HE FLY – Was inconvenienced when crowded by another runner soon after the start.

ROUND THE CORNER – Was inclined to lay in under pressure inconveniencing another runner passing the 100 metres despite the efforts of Jockey K Rockett.

ARMY OF ONE – Was inconvenienced passing the 100 metres by another runner which was inclined to lay in under pressure. Bumped with another runner approaching the winning post.

PEMBERTON – Bumped with another runner approaching the winning post.

Following the running of this event Stewards spoke with Trainer Ms J Ball in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the winner WILL HE FLY. Ms Ball stated that she had expected the gelding to race well over the 1200 metres of today’s event as he had been freshened after racing on the pace over 1500 metres at Mareeba three weeks previously. Ms Ball further stated that her instructions to App. M Kai were to settle off the pace today and to ensure that the gelding had plenty of galloping room to finish off its race. Ms Ball also advised that the stable had not supported WILL HE FLY in today’s event.

Race 5: Costa Group Open Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – CANHEDANCE 2nd – SIZZLELON 3rd – KING MAGNUSSON 4th – BALUSTRADE

SIZZLELON – Shifted in abruptly on jumping.

STAR TRUCE – Was slowly into stride.

KING MAGNUSSON – Was slowly into stride. Had to be restrained after improving onto heels near the 100 metres. Raced wide at the home turn.

CANHEDANCE – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

BALUSTRADE – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Was inclined to race ungenerously for a short distance passing the 700 metres. Raced wide at the home turn.

Race 6: Panorama Views Estate Benchmark 70 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – FIRMITAS 2nd – GUNDY STAR 3rd – LIL’ RED MONKEY 4th – MIDNITE RAID

KING OF THEBES(NZ) – Stood flat footed and missed the start by three (3) lengths . Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Trainer Mr A Malliff was advised that the gelding must obtain one (1) barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

MONTANA MAN – Jockey G Watson reported that the gelding had slipped behind on jumping and as a result was slowly away. The gelding was inspected by the Veterinarian post-race and no abnormalities were detected.

TUPPENY’S OPINION – Had to be steadied off heels passing the 1000 metres.

SHERIDAN – Had to be steadied near the 800 metres when another runner shifted in marginally.

MIDNITE RAID – Shifted in marginally near the 800 metres causing slight tightening to an inside runner. Jockey K Stone was advised to exercise more care.

Jockey P Cullen was dislodged from DE LA SOUL on pulling up due to a broken stirrup leather. Jockey Cullen was subsequently attended by Paramedics and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.

Race 7: Barron Valley Hotel/Liquor Legends/XXXX Atherton Cup Open
Handicap 1800 metres:
1st – KNOWING ME 2nd – FIELDS OF TUSCANY 3rd – ALDREN 4th – SAN RAYMOND

RICHIE ROCKET – Was fractious in the barriers. Was slowly into stride. Bumped with another runner near the 1600 metres. Shifted out approaching the 200 metres hampering a tiring runner when attempting to obtain clear running.

ALDREN – Was inconvenienced soon after the start when crowded between runners.

KNOWING ME(NZ) – Bumped with another runner near the 1600 metres.

JUNEE BOY(NZ) – Was caught wide in the early stages.

BO ROSSA – Made the crossing near the 1400 metres awkwardly. Was inclined to lay under pressure passing the 200 metres.

GLADIUS – Was hampered by another runner which shifted out approaching the 200 metres.

MR HONOR – Was held up for clear running passing the 200 metres.

Following the running of this event Jockey P Cullen who was in a distressed condition was attended by Paramedics and was transported to Atherton Hospital for further assessment.
