Raced wide for the majority. PARTY PIES – Disappointed when attempting a narrow run near the 300m. On returning to scale Jockey Ms. S Wiseman who rode 3rd placegetter PARTY PIES lodged a protest against RYLEE’S SAGA (App. Ms. R Shred) being placed 2nd on the grounds of alleged interference near the 200m. After hearing submissions from the 2 Jockeys and the Trainers of both horses and viewing the available patrol footage, Stewards, although acknowledging that PARTY PIES had to be restrained and shifted out around the heels of RYLEE’S SAGA which had shifted in marginally at that point, were of the opinion that the margin between the two horses at the finish was in excess of any ground lost in the incident, and declared correct weight on the semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry into the incident Stewards issued App. Shred with a reprimand under the provisions of AR137(a) for careless riding. When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of the winner BACKTOSPEC Trainer Mr. G Horner advised Stewards the gelding had appreciated the drop in class today and was far more effective on firm going such as today’s surface. Race 5: ALL WHEEL DRIVE CENTRE BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER – OPEN HANDICAP 1200m BIG TOMEE – Began awkwardly. TUSCAN FALLS – Slowly into stride. Had to be restrained off heels near the 500m. Shifted wider near the 800m when the pace slowed. IRISH HEART - Bumped with another runner near the 1100m. ONE FOR THE MONEY – Had to be restrained near the 800m when the pace slowed. I’M NOT SURE – Slowly away. On returning to scale Jockey Ms. S Wiseman who rode GREAT PRETENDER made application for the gelding to be declared a non-runner as she felt that its barrier did not open simultaneously with those occupied by the remainder of the field. After considering submissions by Ms. Wiseman and Trainer Mr. T Rowe, and viewing the available patrol footage Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that this was the reason for the gelding’s tardy beginning and subsequently declared GREAT PRETENDER a runner.
