Race 1: U Don’t Need A New Roof Maiden Plate 1000m

BRANDS HATCH- Became awkwardly placed on the heels of another runner on entering the home straight before shifting in. Was obliged to shift in again passing the 100m when a runner to its outside commenced to lay in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to its off side hind fetlock in running.

BOLD ARCHER- Shifted out on jumping.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN- Bumped with another runner on jumping. Jockey S Sheargold advised that, in his opinion, the gelding resented the tongue tie and as such never raced comfortably.

SOUL SEARCHER- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

FURE- Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner. Commenced to race ungenerously from the 800m and hung out passing the 600m and on entering the home straight. Trainer N Homann was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.

MILLA MISS- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running momentarily hampering another runner passing the 100m.




Race 2: Panorama Views Estate Class B Handicap 1000m

THE FRONTIER- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

FIRERISE- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

EVIE’S PEARL- Slow to begin.

TRUST ME GUS- Slow to begin.

CLEAR THE BILL- App. K Southam advised that, in her opinion, the gelding did not appreciated the tight circuit though upon straightening let down well.




Race 3: Savannah Campers & Trailers Class 4 Plate Handicap 1200m

WILL HE TORQUE- Was permitted as a late scratching by Stewards at 8:40am when Trainer W Brady advised he was ill and unable to transport the horse to the races.

SLAM DUNKED- As the gelding was resuming after a prolonged absence from racing underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Momentarily tightened by another runner which was laying in under pressure passing the 100m.

COOL ATTITUDE- Shifted in abruptly on jumping. Obliged to steady when pace slackened approaching the 800m.

KOBYS STRATEGY- Shifted out abruptly on jumping bumping heavily with another runner.

AMMATE- Bumped heavily by another runner which shifted out on jumping. Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running momentarily tightening another runner approaching the 100m. App. M Potgieter was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

SET TO SIZZLE- Raced wide the majority.

FEMALE OFFICER- Raced wide throughout.




Race 4: Central Tyre Service Open Handicap 1200m

HIDDEN IN HAEVEN- Shifted out abruptly on jumping bumping with another runner.

DREAM I CAN- Bumped with another runner which shifted out on jumping.

THE GROOM- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Trainer S D’Avila advised it was now her intention to experiment with a tail chain on the gelding in future starts.

SPACE TIME- Slow to begin. Settled further forward than expected. App. R Shred advised that after being slow away it was her intention to settle just off the pace in the small field but after obtaining clear running to the outside of WINDMILL LANE the gelding commenced to over-race and surged forward to assume the lead. Trainers Representative R Ryan stated that the instructions had been to settle off the pace and concurred with App. Shreds assessment. Stewards noted the explanations.

WINDMILL LANE- Obliged to steady off heels when the pace slackened approaching the 800m. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight.




Race 5: Costa’s Cup QTIS Benchmark 50 Handicap 1400m

LANSALA- Connections advised that, should circumstance permit, the gelding would be ridden positively from the wide barrier should circumstances permit. However after being buffeted between runners on jumping, and losing ground when obliged to check as a result, the gelding raced wide throughout.

HAND OF FAITH- Shifted in on jumping tightening another runner.

ELITE JET- Shifted out on jumping tightening another runner.

MISPRINT- Shifted out and bumped with another runner on jumping.

CLOUT- Buffeted between runners on jumping.

SUNNY COWBOY- Shifted in on jumping and bumped with another runner on jumping.

STYLE LINE- Blundered on jumping. Commenced to race ungenerously approaching the 1200m turn and hung in rounding the 1200m turn, continuing to race ungenerously for some distance after. Trainer A Holmes will be advised a warning will be place on the mares racing manners.

EVIL EYE MAC- Inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.

TOFF ROCKS- Raced wide throughout. Performed below market expectations. Trainer A Patterson undertook to advise Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition in the coming days.


Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred passing the 1200m turn which resulted in TAVENUI having to be checked. After hearing evidence from the riders involved and viewing the patrol footage it was ascertained that approaching the 1200m turn CLOUT (App S Gittos) shifted in when insufficiently clear of TAVENUI (App R Shred) causing that runner to be checked and SWEET JUNE (W D’Avila) which was trailing to be restrained. App Gitto’s licenses to ride in races was suspended for a period of thirteen (13) days to commence 12th of September 2020 up to and including 2nd of October 2020. In determining penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Gitto’s good record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea and the degree of interference which was deemed to be in the midrange. App Gittos was advised of his right to an internal review.




Race 6: Barron Valley Hotel, Liquor Legends & XXXX Atherton Cup Open Handicap 2000m

The start of this race was significantly delayed when WE JUST LOVE IT (W D’Avila) became fractious in the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice. YANKEE TANGO and KINGSBRIDGE were also inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon with YANKEE TANGO being declared fit to start and KINGSBRIDGE being declared a late scratching on Veterinary advice. Jockey D’Avila was transported to Atherton Base Hospital for treatment and observation.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on WE JUST LOVE IT and KINGSBRIDGE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4:22pm were:

39 cents in the dollar for the win
30 cents in the dollar for the place

Trainer S Cooper was advised KINGSBRIDGE would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

Trainer J Ryan was advised WE JUST LOVE IT would require a veterinary certificate of fitness and be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitter to start in a race.


TUNERO- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Obliged to steady after passing the winning post the second time when tightened between runners.

GREYCLIFFE- Commenced to race keenly from the 800m and improved onto the heels of another runner approaching the 500m having to be restrained.
