QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ATHERTON TURF CLUB SATURDAY 8 OCTOBER 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (4) RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. Gillard Stewards – P. Lane Clerk of Scales – F. Mallyon Judge – R. Ballard Veterinarian – Dr E. Maloney Swab Attendants – Dr E. Maloney Starter – B. Brady GENERAL The following overweights permitted for today’s meeting: R1 No 2 S. Pawsey + 1kg, R5 No 2 S. Pawsey + 1kg Race 1: FEED N SADDLE SHED BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres SIZZLING SUN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Shifted in slightly near the 800 metres crowding STARFILLY. STARFILLY – Delayed the start when reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer S.Hoffman was advised a warning would be placed on the mares parading manners. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Steadied near the 800 metres when racing ungenerously and was crowded for room. Race 2: PEANUT COMPANY OF AUSTRALIA - A BEGA COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 Metres EYE OF RA – Shifted in at the start bumping MISHANI HOOD. MISHANI HOOD – Bumped on jumping. TALK CRAZY – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 3: TONKIN STEEL QTIS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres MACIPENKO (GB) – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. LUSHAN – Blundered badly on jumping and lost ground. CAIERON – Slow to begin. TAKEN BY THEFT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When asked to explain the mare’s performance, rider S. Pawsey advised it had a tendency to lay out for the majority of the race and in his opinion was not handling the track. Trainer R. Miller agreed with jockey Pawsey’s assessment and further advised he was of the opinion TAKEN BY THEFT had pulled up well following the race and gave an undertaking should anything come to his notice in the coming days that may have had a bearing on today’s performance he will advise the stewards. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BULL RIDING CLASS B HANDICAP – 1400 Metres DENISE'S PRIDE – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of jockey N.Yadi.TEN SCHILLING – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race. KID MAC – Slow to begin. Laid in for a short distance near the 800 metres. Race 5: FLYNN CIVIL OPEN HANDICAP – 1400 Metres NARDA SHAR – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. WHITTERICK – Over-raced in the early stages. Laid out in the middle stages.
