ATHERTON TURF CLUB SATURDAY 17 DECEMBER 2022

WEATHER – OVERCAST/SHOWERY TRACK RATING – SOFT (7) RAIL – TRUE

GENERAL

The following overweights permitted for today’s meeting:
R2 No 5 (Desert Chatterbox) + 1kg
R4 No 6 (Sogni) + 1kg
R5 No 7 (Laudeylou) + 1kg
R5 No 6 (Lanova) + .50kg

All race times were brought forward after consultation with the Atherton Turf Club due to threating storms in and around the local area.

Race 1: EZY CHILLERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

OCTOBER STORM – Began awkwardly.

SMARTY LEE – Began awkwardly. Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200 metres tightening the running of STRATEGIST which had shifted in. Rider M. Abe was advised to show greater care. Again shifted out near the 80 metres bumping with SOUND OF SLEAT.

SOUND OF SLEAT – Shifted in soon after the start bumping SUPPOSEDLY WICKED on two occasions. Bumped near the 250 metres by STRATEGIST which shifted out. Soon after SOUND OF SLEAT commenced to shift in when unbalanced tightening the running of STRATEGIST. Shifted in under hard riding near the 80 metres bumping SMARTY LEE.

SUPPOSEDLY WICKED – Bumped on two occasions soon after the start.

STRATEGIST –Shifted out near the 250 metres bumping SOUND OF SLEAT, soon after shifted out and away from SMARTY LEE which was shifting out and in doing so bumped SOUND OF SLEAT heavily on the hindquarters, when that runner was shifting in, resulting in STRATEGIST being buffeted between SMARTY LEE and SOUND OF SLEAT which was unbalanced and as a result STRATEGIST was checked. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 2: LARKIN BUILDING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 Metres

DESERT CHATTERBOX – As M. Abe was unable to make the allotted weight of the filly, he was replaced by K. Hocking. Slow to begin.

BORLOTTI BEANS – Blundered badly on jumping and shifted in inconveniencing MISS TITTLE TAT. Forced wider in the home straight.

MISS TITTLE TAT – As jockey S. Sheargold was dually engaged he was replaced by jockey R. Shred. S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to charge under the provisions of AR 127(1) in that he failed to fulfil that engagement due to being dually engaged. In considering penalty stewards acknowledged his guilty plea however were mindful of his recent poor record in relation to the rule. S. Sheargold was fined the sum of $600. S. Sheargold was advised of his right of review to this decision. Inconvenienced on jumping and lost ground when shifted inside the line of the running rail before being corrected.

LORD POWER – Began awkwardly.

LORD PROPHET – Slow to begin.

TO BOOGIE – Shifted out under pressure in the straight forcing BORLOTTI BEANS wider. Rider D. Smith was advised to show greater care.

Race 3: ATHERTON FAMILY LAWYERS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

TOFF ROCKS – Over-raced in the early stages. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.

BIG BAZ – Slow to begin.

Race 4: BJS PLUMBING & CIVIL CONTRACTING OPEN HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

NARDA SHAR – Shifted outwards on jumping forcing runner to its outside wider. Whilst stewards noted the normal racing pattern of the gelding, which was to lead, rider M. Abe was questioned as to his knowledge of how far he was actually leading by. M. Abe explained that it had surprised him how far in front of the rest of the field he was but explained NARDA SHAR refused to settle early despite his efforts. Stewards accepted his explanation.

TENNESSEE BOY – Began awkwardly.

SOGNI – Forced wider on jumping.

OUR CHIQUILLA – Forced wider on jumping.

SYLVESTER – Restrained at the start.

Race 5: FLYNN CIVIL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

LAUDEYLOU – As M. Abe was unable to make the allotted weight of the filly, he was replaced by K. Hocking. M. Abe pleaded guilty to charge under the provisions of AR 190(3) in that he failed to fulfil engagements of both LAUDEYLOU and DESERT CHATERBOX due to being overweight. In considering penalty stewards acknowledged his guilty plea however were mindful of his recent poor record in relation to the rule. M. Abe was fined the sum of $400.
M. Abe was advised of his right of review to this decision. Raced for the majority of the race.

ASTERN VILLA – Saddle shifted back soon after the start placing rider F. Edwards at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

WHITTERICK – Laid in in the middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
