REGAL CONQUEROR – Slow into stride. Improved onto heels approaching the winning post and was restrained. When asked to explain the tactics, particularly in the early and middle stages jockey S. Wilson stated he was issued instructions to ride the gelding in a quite manner but did not expect to be that far back however he was of the opinion REGAL CONQUEROR was not comfortable on the downhill run approaching the home turn but did find the line well in the home straight on the flatter section of the track. Trainer S. Hoffman confirmed those instructions and agreed with jockey Wilsons comments. Whilst stewards noted their explanations Ms Hoffman was reminded of her obligation to advise stewards of any change in tactics from its current racing pattern.

PHANTOM SPIRIT – Stewards questioned trainer S. Hoffman in regard to the gelding being scratched from today’s race after jockey declaration time. Ms Hoffman advised stewards PHANTOM SPIRIT had injured its off hind leg after acceptance time and after being attended to by a veterinary surgeon she was advised to scratch the horse from today’s race. This was confirmed by Dr E. Maloney by way of a veterinary certificate and photographic evidence. A further steward’s stable inspection was also conducted which also confirmed the injury. Ms Hoffman was advised a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required prior to PHANTOM SPIRIT being permitted to trial or race again and further it is her intention that the gelding will be sent for an immediate spell.

STARFILLY – As the mare competed at Ladbroke Cairns Cannon Park races on Saturday 24 November 2023 it underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection prior to the race and on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Shifted in near the 600 metres inconveniencing STRATEGIST.

After considering all evidence Jockey M. Butler was severely reprimanded. Laid in under pressure near the 80 metres before being corrected.
