QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ATHERTON TURF CLUB ATHERTON – SATURDAY 15 JUNE 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (3) RAIL – TRUE POSITION OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – A. HolzhauserStewards – P. Gillard, S. Copelin, Y. Walburgh-Schmidt (Ast Steward) Race 1: BOOKIES BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice jockey T. Leslight, the rider of RACATOON which finished third, in the company of senior rider L. Morrison if he had grounds to lodge an objection against POMADE which finished second on the ground of interference in the home straight. After viewing the available footage apprentice Leslight declined to proceed. HOW DO YOU SLEEP – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. DOMINANT ROSE – Connections advised it would be the intention to ride the mare back, off the speed due to its wide barrier draw if circumstances permit. Was rode accordingly. Slow to begin. When asked to explain its performance today jockey L. Morrison explained the mare was fractious during its preliminary and behind the barriers which is not its usual manner and that may have had a bearing on its performance today. Stewards noted her explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. WRONGFULLY WRONG – Jumped in at the start tightening RACATOON. RACATOON – Tightened for room between runners on jumping. SHEZAPEARLER – Jumped out at the start tightening RACATOON. Race 2: BEGA GROUP QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 Metres SIRENE ROUGE – Slow to begin. RIVALON – Began very awkwardly causing jockey L. Morrison to become unbalanced. Jockey Morrison advised stewards the filly was uncomfortable racing down the slope leaving the 600 metres and laid out. KING CANUTE – Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. TYCOON GRACE – Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight. Race 3: TOLGA HOTEL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres LORD POWER – Anticipated the start and began awkwardly. BORLOTTI BEANS – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. LADY OF FORTUNE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. RED LANTERN – Raced wide for the majority of the race. LUCKY JIM – Lost its near fore plate during running. Trainer M. Dale advised stewards the gelding was stepping short in the near side front. Mr Dale was advised he must supply a veterinary clearance of fitness prior to the gelding racing or trialling again. Race 4: BROWN & HURLEY AGRICULTURE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres SIDE HUSTLE – Shifted out at the start placing HEALING GAME in restricted room. HEALING GAME – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground.Raced wide for the majority of the race. LOUD NOISE – Bumped on the nearside hindquarter near the 900 metres being momentarily unbalanced. STRATEGIST – Shifted in near the 900 metres bumping LOUD NOISE on the hind quarter.Raced wide for the majority of the race. BONYTHON – Laid out near the 400 metres.Race 5: MCMAHONS BETTA HOME LIVING BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres HELLO NEWMAN – As the gelding had not raced for an extended period it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Reared in the saddling enclosure prior to entering the track dislodging apprentice L. Guernier who was stood down after being examined by the QAS officials. As no other rider was available it was declared a late scratching at 3.28pm. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on HELLO NEWMAN were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer N. Nelson was advised that a warning would be placed on the horses parading manners. AUGUSTA REVOLUTION – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. MISHANI LIGHT – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race. IT'S A PLOY – Fractious in the barriers and reared as the start was effected losing considerable ground. Trainer A. Ryan was advised he must provide a further barrier certificate prior to it being permitted to race again. MYZAH – Commenced to over-race for a short distance after the start when shifted in slightly and being corrected. LINE OF KINGS – Slow into stride. Restrained for a short distance after the start when racing in restricted room to the inside of MYZAH which shifted in slightly and commenced to over-race. MAKANUI – Over-raced in the early stages having to be restrained.
