GENERAL
 
By order of the stewards due to no available or suitable riders, nine horses for today’s meeting were declared late scratching’s at 11.30am. The horses / races concerned are listed in the late scratching section of the steward’s race day summary.
 

Race 1: OFFICE CHOICE ATHERTON Maiden Plate 1200m
 
TINDER SWINDLER – Laid out until corrected by the rider in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SIRENE ROUGE – Jumped awkwardly, moved out and bumped THREDBO. Over- raced in the early stages. After the race rider App. T. Leslight advised stewards that whilst SIRENE ROUGE was being loaded into the barrier he had bumped his left outer shin just below his knee. As a result, he had the injury examined by on the course QAS and was passed fit to fulfill his further rider engagements at the meeting.   
 
THREDBO – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 2: LARKIN BUILDERS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1200m
 
Stewards inquired into an incident at the 600 metres where BORLOTTI BEANS jockey D. Smith which was racing ungenerously at the time had to be restrained after improving to a position inside the heels of DELUXE LEGEND App. L Guernier. After taking evidence from both riders and senior jockey L. Morrison who assisted App. Guernier, stewards believed although there was a slight inward shift from DELUXE LEGEND which had contributed in part to the incident, however the main cause of BOLOTTI BEANS having to check was primarily the geldings own racing manners. Stewards did however advise App. L Guernier to exercise more care in similar circumstances, further Jockey D. Smith was subsequently cautioned by the stewards in relation to the quality of his evidence supplied to stewards regarding this incident.
 
BORLOTTI BEANS – Began awkwardly and shifted out contacting BLOOMIN RIPPER. Over-raced in the middle stages when restrained off heels of DELUXE LEGEND at the 600 metres.
 
BLOOMIN' RIPPER – Bumped on jumping and shifted out bumping DELUXE LEGEND. Laid out in the home straight bumping with DELUXE LEGEND.
 
DELUXE LEGEND – Bumped on jumping by BLOOMING RIPPER. Commenced to lay in the latter stages of the straight until corrected by the rider, bumping with BLOOMIN’ RIPPER.
 
SUPER ART – Began awkwardly on jumping and put in an awkward stride at the 1100 metres.

 
Race 3: BJS PLUMBING & CIVIL CONTRACTING QTIS BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1400m
 
WISHNOWSKY – Slowly away and raced wide for the majority.
 
DOMINANT ROSE – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
AGLOT – Jockey D. Smith advised stewards the gelding failed to respond to his riding in the later stages as in his opinion it did not handle today’s heavy track conditions.
 
THE HOME TEAM – Jockey L. Morrison advised stewards the gelding had commenced tiring from the 750 metres and that she did not fully test the gelding due to it not handling the heavy-going track conditions. The gelding was subject to a post-race veterinary inspection which identified the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer A. Bailey was advised by stewards, the gelding will now require a veterinary certificate clearance prior to any future race, trial or jump-out. Trainer A. Bailey was also advised to report to stewards any results that the veterinarian may find in relation to intended further tests that are to be undertaken in the coming days.
 
Race 4: HAIR BY EVA BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1000m
 
As a result of rain showers prior to the start of Race 3 of the meeting, the stewards inspected the track it was then retrospectively downgraded to a Heavy 8 from to an including Race 3.
 
FIND MY CALM – Slowly away and was inconvenienced shortly after the start by SO ODELIA resulting in the mare losing considerable ground.
 
SO ODELIA – On leaving the mounting yard the mare had kicked out hitting a mounting yard gate post and on arrival it then underwent a veterinary check and was past fit to take its place in the race. Started to buck shortly after the start to approximately 950 metres and as a result lost considerable ground and then tailed off behind the remaining runners. Trainer M. PURVIS was subsequently advised by stewards the mare was now required to successfully pass a barrier trial / jump out prior to next race start.
 
ASSYMETRY – After the race, Jockey L. Morrison advised stewards that whilst riding in the race she had aggravated an existing injury to her right elbow area, she did not seek QAS treatment and was able to fulfill her final race 5 riding engagement.
 
Race 5: FLYNN CIVIL OPEN Handicap 1000m
 
The start of Race 5 was delayed for approximately 15 minutes whilst the on-course ambulance treated a race day patron who was suffering chest pains and subsequently transported by another QAS ambulance to the Atherton Base Hospital.

MY ARTIE – Slow into stride.
 
THUMANI – Commenced to hang out in the early stages of the home straight, heavily bumping ROUGH CUT JEWEL. Jockey D. Smith advised stewards the gelding did not feel comfortable in the heavy going and it had moved about during the running of the race, and at times raced ungenerously. Stewards also inquired into Jockey D. SMITH failing to take sufficient action in a timely manner to straighten the gelding prior to bumping ROUGH CUT JEWEL. After taking evidence stewards then reprimanded Jockey D. Smith pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident.  Jockey D. Smith was advised by stewards that in the future he was to take to take an earlier hold and straighten his mounts in a timely manner under similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary inspection of THUMANI failed to identify any significant findings.   
 
ROUGH CUT JEWEL – Heavily bumped at the 250 metres by THUMANI, and shortly after commenced to hang for a few strides until straightened by the rider.
