GENERAL

The start times for races 4 and 5 were amended to allow for the completion of official barrier trials after the last race. The amended times were:

Race 4- 3:15pm
Race 5- 3:35pm

Stewards inquired into the reasons WINDMILL LANE was scratched from the FLYNN CIVIL OPEN HANDICAP. Trainer R Ludwig advised that, in his opinion, the track was going to be too hard for the horse which has a predisposition to hoof soreness and as such elected to scratch the gelding prior to scratching time. Stewards took evidence from Dr E Maloney who advised that he has treated the gelding on numerous occasions in the past for various hoof conditions. After considering the evidence Stewards accepted the explanation and no further action was taken.

BULLSWOOL- Slow to begin.

UPTOWN TOFF- Inclined to lay out under pressure down the running. App K Swaffer was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR131.

FURE- Laid out rounding the home turn. Settled further forward than expected. Jockey P Romeo advised that after beginning well he elected to allow his mount to stride forward and as the pace was slow found the lead easily. Jockey Romeo also sighted the geldings past racing manners stating he did not want to aggravate the gelding by restraining as it was travelling well. Stewards noted the explanation.

LINNET MOON- Shifted in on jumping. Shifted out marginally on entering the home straight inconveniencing another runner.

JOHN THE RODENT- Slow to begin. Inconvenienced by another runner which shifted in on jumping. Obliged to momentarily restrain after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of runners which shifted ground on entering the home straight.

HAND OF FAITH- Shifted out on jumping bumping with another runner before shifting in momentarily inconveniencing another runner. Shifted in marginally on entering the home straight inconveniencing another runner. Shifted out passing the 50m resulting in WILL HE TORQUE (P Romeo) having to be momentarily eased. App. K Southam was reprimanded under the provision of AR131(a) as a result of this incident.

SIR ROLAND- Bumped with another runner on jumping.

METRO MISSILE- After beginning on terms with the field was unable to muster the early speed needed to maintain its position.

ROSE CLIP- Raced wide throughout.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey P Romeo, rider of 4th place getter WILL HE TORQUE, to view the footage of the final 100m to determine whether there was grounds for an objection. After viewing the official patrol footage Jockey Romeo elected not to proceed with an objection and correct weight ease declared on the judges semaphored numbers.

Race 3: TROPICAL PASTURE SEEDS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000M

The start of the race was delayed when DANCING DIVA was presented for pre-race inspection with the incorrect saddle cloth. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey P Romeo and Trainer B Hunter were both fined the sum of $100 for negligence under the provisions of AR227.
