STEWARDS REPORT BARCALDINE RACE CLUB – SATURDAY, 5 May 2018 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD (3)RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr L CollinsStewards –Ms K McCrackenClerk of Scales – ClubJudge – ClubVeterinarian- D MackenzieSwab attendants – Miss N BoyleStarter- Mr M Cullen Supplementary Report – Longreach 7 November 2017 At Blackall on 25 November, 2017, Stewards took initial evidence from Jockeys J Lait, P Romeo, J Babarovich and Trainer M Oates in relation to an incident that occurred in the jockey’s room following the final race. Stewards today reconvened the matter and Trainer M Oates was reminded of his responsibility to conduct himself appropriately. Further, Jockey J Lait was made aware of his obligation to report any racing incidents to Stewards so necessary action can be taken if required. No further action was taken. General: Given the field sizes for the meeting and the 30 minutes between races, Stewards run Races 4, 5 and 6 back one race with the final race commencing at 5.00pm. This also allowed events to be conducted in a timely manner prior to the feature race. Race 1: Michael Horman Transport BenchMark 70 Handicap 1000m Prior to the start being affected, stewards were aware that STELLAR KNIGHT and HEZA CHUMLEY had been placed in the incorrect barriers. Stewards attempted to contact the starter however were unable. Due to a horse being fractious, this was unable to be corrected prior to the start. At a subsequent inquiry, App. T Doyle was fined $100 in that his negligence had led to the horse being placed in the incorrect barrier and further Jockey Venkaya was reprimanded. In considering the penalties, stewards note that App. Doyle was cautioned at Emerald on 28/04/18. ANZUS – Jumped awkwardly. STYLISH SON – Stood as the start was affected and began awkwardly. BENCHI PEGASUS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. HEZA CHUMLEY – Jumped out and made contact with I AM A LAD. Near the 150 metres, shifted in marginally away from GO SAI, and I AM A LAD shifted out when THE BAKER progressed to its outside and caused HEZA CHUMLEY to tightened and checked. App Fazackerley will be reprimanded for this incident. STELLAR KNIGHT – Lost near fore plate in running. THE BAKER – Jumped awkwardly and threw its head in the air and lost some ground. Laid in for the majority of the straight. Race 2: Capricorn Plumbing & Building Supplies BenchMark 50 Handicap 1100m CHARLES – Fractious in the barriers. FUN FOR ME – Jumped out and made contact with LEND ME A TENNER. DANTIEN – Jumped in the air and inwards and hampered LEND ME A TENNER. FLINDERS DEAGON – Over the concluding stages shifted out under pressure. HUSSON’S SHOUT – Raced wide without cover throughout. EQUAL RULER – Turned its head as the start was affected and lost ground. AVOID THE MISSUS – Bounded on jumping. FASTPITCH – Jockey L Dillon was cautioned and advised of the rules in relation to use of the whip. Race 3: Barcaldine Regional Council QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m SIDEREUS SMILE – Broke through when placed in the barriers. Restrained quickly and replaced in the barrier. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. SAGA QUEEN – In the straight shifted out under pressure. NICCONI PASQUALE – Rider reported that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout. VALENTINE’S DAY – App. N Fazackerley was cautioned with regard to consecutive use of the whip. DURANT – Jockey L Dillon was reprimanded for use of the whip of more than 5 occasions and consecutively prior to the 100 metres. In considering penalty, stewards were mindful of Jockey Dillon’s lengthy absence from race riding. Race 4: Michael Horman Transport Class 6 Plate 1300m MENACING – Jumped out and made contact with ROYAL FROLIC. ANADEO – Jumped in and lost some ground. STYLISH LUCK – Raced without cover throughout. Race 5: Capricorn Plumbing & Building Supplies Class B Handicap 1300m CASSAVANCE – Jumped inwards. App. N Fazackerley was reprimanded for use of the whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metres. In considering penalty, stewards took into account App. Fazackerley’s good record. TRUE TIME – Made contact on jumping with DIFFERENT SHADE which was taken in and hampered PART THE SEA. App. A McDonell was reprimanded for use of her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100 metre. Stewards note this was her second meeting of race riding. Race 6: Pat Odgen Family TOK/Outback Racing Showcase 2018 Open Handicap – Heat 1600m TUXEDO BOY – Jumped in the air at the start. CHESTNUT ROAD – Rider reported that the outside barrier swung back and caused the gelding to be hampered.
