GENERAL
Due to apprentice S Zoljan being stood down for injuries received in a fall at Charlerville on Saturday 6 July 2024, rider replacements were approved as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Random urine samples were taken from all riders competing at today’s meeting to be sent away for analysis.
 
Race 1: BARCALDINE REGIONAL COUNCIL MAIDEN PLATE  1300 M
 
GUTHO – Slow to begin and impeded between runners soon after the start.
 
SIRENE – Began very awkwardly resulting in apprentice L O’Donnell becoming momentarily unbalanced. Inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DANGEREUSE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Bluff on 06 July 2024 and was cleared to start.
 
HE'LL HAVACHAT – Apprentice N Olzard reported that her mount was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race. Trainer’s representative R Williams was advised that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of the gelding.
 
MY COUNTY – When queried in relation to the performance jockey C Bayliss explained that the gelding travelled well until asked for an effort near the 300m and then failed to run on as expected and in his view was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Button advised that he would look to reassess the immediate racing future of MY COUNTY.
 
WORTHY'S GIRL – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: FERNHILL GRAZING CLASS 6 PLATE  1000 M
 
DESIGNED TO RUN – Laid in under pressure on occasions in the home straight.
 
FLANK SPEED – Raced three wide throughout and made the home turn awkwardly and shifted wider on the track.
 
PHONDLE – Began awkwardly.
 
JUKEBOX LUCY (NZ) – Reared prior to the start.
 
SHARWIN – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: CAPRICORN PLUMBING & BUILDING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP  1000 M
 
DEEP MYSTIQUE – Slow to begin.
 
ISSHEGREY – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
RED ZORRO – Tightened for room rounding the turn near the 800m and was checked. Upon inquiry, considering  replays and evidence from apprentice K Lenton, (SHEZAJUKE) assisted by Ms S Alexander apprentice O Webb (RED ZORRO) assisted by A Butler and R Faehr (GOLDIE’S POWER), stewards were not entirely satisfied to the requisite standard that the incident could be attributed to any one rider which would result in a charge being issued, however advised both apprentice K Lenton and R Faehr to ensure they leave sufficient room for runners to their inside.
 
SHEZAJUKE – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
DIDN'T ASK ME – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CROWN REACH – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 4: BARCALDINE WELDING WORKS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP       1300 M
 
FANTWA – Slow to begin.
 
BADGE – Raced wide throughout.
 
LASTING PROMISE – Slow to begin.
 
DISPUTE – Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight resulting in apprentice L O’Donnell having to stop riding and straighten her mount on a number of occasions.
 
COCO CUBER – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running until entering the home straight. Hung in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride.
 
REAL EMPRESS – Slow to begin.
 
I'M FREE – Raced wide throughout.
 
Apprentice J L Devine was examined by QAS officers subsequent to the race after suffering a nose bleed and was stood down from riding in race five pending results of a concussion test.
 
Race 5: WESTERN FREIGHT LINK QTIS CLASS 3 HANDICAP  1200 M
 
SHAGGY ROGERS – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness to the off hind and connections were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the geldings next start.
 
ENTREPRENEURIAL – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
INATICK – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
ENCROACHMENT – Began awkwardly. Over raced into the first turn and was awkwardly placed on the heels DAULAT MACHTIGKUDA and had to be steadied for a number of strides
 
OAKLEIGH – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination in regard to swelling to the right foreleg and was found to be sore on flexion. OAKLEIGH was declared a late scratching at 1.45pm and due to oncourse betting not having commenced, no deductions were applicable. Trainer P O’Toole was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to OAKLEIGH racing again and the gelding has been stood down for seven days on veterinary advice.
 
ZOROSSA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Hughenden on 06 July 2024 and was cleared to start. Become fractious and reared at the start dislodging jockey R Faehr. Underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Slow to begin.
 
DAULAT MACHTIGKUDA – As there was no available apprentice, S McGovern was approved to replace J L Devine who was stood down.
 
Following the running of this race, stewards considered a course of action to be taken against ZOROSSA given the geldings barrier manners today and for an extended period in the past. Taking into account submissions made by trainer R Hermann and that prior to today ZOROSSA had been required to pass a satisfactory barrier trial or test on no less than 12 occasions for unacceptable manners and dangerous behaviour, acting under the provisions of AR20(d) ZOROSSA is now prohibited from starting in a race.
 
Race 6: BARCALDINE LEADING APPLICANCES OPEN HANDICAP  1200 M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey W Satherley rider of second placed REAL KEY to view the replays of the home straight to ascertain whether he had grounds for a protest. Mr Satherley declined to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared.
 
REAL KEY – Shifted out under pressure leaving the 200m and brushed by LILY ALLEZ (NZ) near the 150m. Apprentice N Olzard was advised that she is to ensure that he takes appropriate corrective measures in future.
 
HEYINGTON STATION – Apprentice K Lenton was the approved replacement rider for J L Devine. Over the concluding stages and had to be restrained from the heels of NEW YORK WORLD when inclined to hang in.
 
STRIKE POINT – Nearing the 800m turn had to be restrained when awkwardly placed on the heels of LILY ALLEZ (NZ).
 
LILY ALLEZ (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
NEW YORK WORLD – A fraction slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m. Jockey S McGovern was advised that he is to ensure that he takes appropriate corrective measures in future.
 
HEZAGEM – Slow to begin.
 
Race 7: GBA CONSULTING ENGINEERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP  1600 M
 
Apprentice J L Devine was cleared of any clinical signs of concussion and cleared to take her remaining ride.
 
RUBY’S LAD – Slow into stride.
 
FINSCEAL – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
GALACTIC EXPRESS – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HERE HE LOOMS – Shifted out leaving the 250m to obtain clear racing room.
 
MONEY MUNCHER – Raced wide throughout.
 
FLOP TURN RIVER – Checked for a number of strides near the 200m. Jockey J Missen (HERE HE LOOMS) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) for careless riding in that near the 200m he directed his mount outwards when insufficiently clear which caused FLOP TURN RIVER to be checked between his own mount and GALACTIC EXPRESS. The license to ride in races of Mr Missen was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 13 July 2024. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the Careless Riding Template, the riders guilty plea and his exemplary record which revealed only one prior careless riding suspension in the previous 10 years.
