At Townsville Turf Club on Thursday 6/03/2025, Apprentice Nikki Olzard rode her winner number 80 and will no longer be entitled to claim her 1.5kg Country Allowance. As Acceptances had already closed for this meeting, Apprentice Olzard was permitted to claim her allowance for today`s Barcaldine Meeting. Race 1: HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 MetresFULL OF EURO – Shifted out shortly after the start and forced POTESTAS wider. Shifted out under pressure passing the 350m before being corrected by its rider and raced greenly for the remainder of the straight. POTESTAS - Shifted wider shortly after the start when FULL OF EURO shifted out. Jockey R Faehr reported that in his opinion the gelding will gain fitness from today’s run. PROJECT XERO – Raced wide throughout. When being restrained, shifted out passing the 800m. Jockey T Townsend reported that the gelding raced greenly for the majority of the event. HOWSE – Fractious in the barriers and as a result was slow to begin. Apprentice Nikki Olzard reported that the gelding raced greenly for the majority of the event. SHE'S A FERRARI – Slow to begin. NAORO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.Race 2: BARCALDINE RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200 MetresBITTERSWEET PLUCK – Slow to begin. Taken wide on the home turn when READY AND WAITING laid out.INSPIRATION – Slow to begin. READY AND WAITING - Slow to begin.Inclined to lay out and shifted wide rounding the home turn takingBITTERSWEET PLUCK wider on the track.Jockey T Townsend reported that the mare laid out for the majority of the event and failed to respond to her riding over the last 200m. A post-race Veterinary inspection revealed READY AND WAITING to be lame in the off-hind leg. Trainer T Schofield was advised that the mare would require a Veterinary certificate before racing or trialling again.Race 3: BARCALDINE RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1000 MetresPALAZZO SPIRIT – Momentarily stood flat footed when the start was affected and as a result lost ground. Trainer P O`Toole was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for its barrier manners. Momentarily held up passing the 350m. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.ISHOTTHEDEPUTY – Passing the 300m, became unbalanced when bumped by CHIEF MONDO which shifted in slightly under pressure.YEMEAN – Trainer C Austin advised Stewards that YEMEAN was scratched due to no rider being available.FREDDIE EDDIE – Began awkwardly.READY TO GROOVE – Fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early stages and tailed off. Trailed the field for the entire event. When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance, Trainer H Forster stated that READY TO GROOVE was resuming from a spell and did not perform as well as he had expected. Mr Forster was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners. A post-race Veterinary inspection revealed the gelding had cast the off-hind plate in running.BOATING - Jockey T Townsend reported that BOATING raced greenly over the concluding stages when tiring.DAICOS – Stewards acceded to a request by Trainer T Schofield for Apprentice S Zoljan to claim 1kg of her 2kg allowance as there were no other riders available. Inconvenienced and had to steady when CHIEF MONDO laid in for the first 50m after jumping. Raced wide for the majority.CHIEF MONDO – Laid in after jumping for the first 50m and inconvenienced DAICOS. Shifted in slightly passing the 300m and bumped ISHOTTHEDEPUTY and continued to lay in under pressure for the remainder of the straight.Race 4: BARCALDINE RACING CLUB CLASS 3 PLATE 3-Y-O & Up. 1000 MetresGOTTA FLY – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.TAKERU – Raced wide for the majority. JUKEBOX LUCY – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice S Zoljan stated that in her opinion JUKEBOX LUCY would gain fitness from the run.BRILLIANT MELODY - Jockey T Townsend stated that BRILLIANT MELODY tired over the concluding stages and would gain fitness from the run. FINAL MISSION – Held up for clear running between the 300m and the 50m. HEDON'TWANTME – Began awkwardly. Jockey J Rudd reported that HEDON'TWANTME was resuming from a long spell and raced greenly for the majority of the event. Jockey Rudd also added that in his opinion the mare would gain fitness from the run. Race 5: BARCALDINE RACING CLUB OPEN HANDICAP 1000 MetresHURTLE – Shifted out slightly passing the 700m. Held up for clear running from the 300m until passing the 100m.HEYINGTON STATION – Had to be steadied passing the 700m when racing in restricted room between HURTLE which shifted out slightly and WITHOUT SHAME which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey T Townsend, rider of WITHOUT SHAME was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) in that she did make insufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting into the rightful running of HEYINGTON STATION causing that horse to steady from heels.WITHOUT SHAME – Slow to begin. Shifted in passing the 700m when insufficiently clear causing HEYINGTON STATION to steady from heels. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. MUSIC AWARD – Raced wide for the majority. Inclined to lay in when tiring over the last 100m. KINJINA –When under pressure in the home straight and passing the 80m attempted to savage HURTLE. When asked to comment on the incident, Trainer R little advised Stewards thatKINJINA has shown a tendency to become more irritable when being handled at home in the stable. Mr Little added that he would be seeking advice from a Veterinarian to establish if there is an issue which is causing the change of behaviour and the mare will receive treatment before resuming. After reviewing the available patrol footage, Trainer R Little was advised that KINJINA must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to the mares next race start.
