QRIC Stewards Report BUNDABERG RACE CLUB: 28th JULY 2018Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: TrueStewards: K Daly, G Goold, P Honeywell (club)Starter: A EmeryClerk of Scales: M HoneywellJudge: A NassoVeterinarian: Dr K SchroderSwab Attendant: A Ansell Race 1: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 850 Metres PEARL’S LAD – On return to scale a protest was lodged by App S Barlow, rider of second placegetter OVERLOAD, against first placegetter PEARL’S Lad alleging interference near the 200 metres. Stewards found that at that point of the race PEARL’S LAD shifted out under pressure resulting in SOLGAZE and NEED FINANCE being taken outwards and bumping OVERLOAD. Taking into account the long neck margin, the degree of interference suffered by OVERLOAD, and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, the protest was dismissed. At a subsequent inquiry App Wishart was reprimanded under AR137(a) for making insufficient effort to prevent PEARL’S LAD shifting out under pressure. A post-race Vet examination of PEARL’S LAD revealed superficial cuts to the off hind leg. OVERLOAD – bumped near the 200 metres LEGAL STATURE – raced wide throughout LEASE OF LIFE – raced wide throughout SOLGAZE – bumped at the start. Inconvenienced and taken out near the 200 metres NEED FINANCE – Inconvenienced near 200 metres SEA SHELLS – rider J Missen, after being dislodged from the mare on returning to the saddling enclosure following the event, was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements. A post-race Vet examination of SEASHELLS revealed a slow recovery rate. .Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1090 Metres On arrival behind the barriers PISTOL AND BOO was examined by the Club Vet and found to be sore in the off foreleg and declared a late scratching at 2:01pm. On declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all bets on PISTOL AND BOO be refunded in full and deductions of 5 cents win and 6 cents place to apply on face value of all winning bets. SP’s are subject to this deduction. Trainer D Gardiner was advised the colt would require a Vet certificate prior to its next race start. RIVERINA GOLD – raced wide throughout LOTTIE DENO – uncompetitive throughout the event and finished a considerable distance behind the remainder of the field. Trainer S Parsons indicated to Stewards it would be his intention to retire mare, however was advised LOTTIE DENO would be required to trial satisfactorily before racing again if these circumstances were to change. A post-race Vet examination of LOTTIE DENO failed to reveal any abnormality. RETURN FLIGHT – wide throughout Race 3: OPEN HDCP 1090 Metres Prior to the declaration of correct weight and after the placings were semaphored by the judge as 4-6-3-8, R Faehr, rider of 4th placegetter PRINCE MANITOU requested to view the photo finish image for third. After doing so and acting under AR156(1) Stewards allowed the judge to amend the placings to read 4-6 and dead-heat for third between 3 and 8. Correct weight was subsequently declared on these amended placings. MISS ANNA – when asked to comment on the below market performance rider M Barnham stated the mare is better suited in races over a longer distance and in his opinion MISS ANNA did not appreciate the sand racing surface. LIVERPOOL JANE – raced wide throughout CRAIGLEA PISTOL – raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and bumped AL’S BRIEFS near the 250 metres AL’S BRIEFS – bumped near the 250 metres PRINCE MANITOU – slow to begin Race 4: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1212 Metres LOST THIEF – slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Hampered when obliged to steady away from heels near the 200 metres WILD ELEMENT – rider R Faehr was fined $100 for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres JUSTFLICKINIT – at scale rider P Romeo stated the gelding travelled well to the 400 metres however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. A post-race Vet examination revealed signs of mild muscle soreness across the hindquarters LOMI – App M Wishart was reprimanded for use of the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. Shifted out under pressure near the 200 metres hampering LOST THIEF. M Wishart was advised to exercise more care under similar circumstances LUCKY MACHU – slow to begin Race 5: OPEN HDCP 1600 Metres CLOUDS – when asked to comment on below market performance rider P Romeo stated the mare felt flat in the run and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer L Anderson indicated CLOUDS may not have backed up from its most previous run at Gympie 7 days prior. A post-race Vet examination of CLOUDS failed to reveal any abnormality.
