Stewards today continued an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the late scratching’s of both EXPLOSIVE TRUTH and KINGOFTHEHARBOUR from their respective engagements at the Gympie race meeting on 20th November 2021 following reports from the QRIC Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) on race morning. Mr Michael Matthews, trainer of EXPLOSIVE TRUTH, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR249(1) in that as the trainer of that horse he administered the product TuffRock to both forelegs of EXPLOSIVE TRUTH on the morning of November 20th, the day on which that horse was engaged to start in Race 2 (Benchmark 60 Hdcp). Mr Mathews was fined the sum of $400. Mr Simon Kurz, trainer of KINGOFTHE HARBOUR, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR254A(1) in that as the trainer of that horse he administered by way of injection the product Hemoplex which contains cobalt salts to KINGOFTHEHARBOUR on November 4th and November 16th 2021. Mr Kurz was fined the sum of $2000. General As paperwork for G Hayes to be licensed as a senior rider had not been finalised, riding replacements were made as per the Race Day summary sheet. Race 1 – Class B Hdcp 850 METRES Correct weight was delayed allowing M Butler, rider of 5th placegetter DAWNSTAR, to view the phot finish image for 4th. After doing so correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings. THE WAITING MAN – Raced wide throughout. Hung out throughout the event and was unable to be tested by its rider in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer Pat Sexton was advised THE WAITING MAN must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. RASHEED – As G Hayes was replaced as the rider of RASHEED, and no apprentice rider was available, Stewards permitted D Boutet to ride the gelding. Raced wide throughout. CELEBRATING – Fractious moving onto the track and dislodged rider R Faher. Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced wide for majority of the event. MAJIANG – Slow to begin. FLYING KASS – Tightened on jumping and lost ground. DAWNSTAR – Delayed arriving on course due to traffic issues. Underwent a veterinary examination on arrival and cleared to start. Race 2 – Band 0-55 Hdcp 1090 METRES GOSSIAUX – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DUKATTI – Crowded on jumping and lost ground. TRUE TALLY – Apprentice M Philpott, rider of TRUE TALLY, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted. BABA VANGA – Raced wide for the majority of the event. RUN THE CUTTER – Jumped in at the start. Jockey H Phillips, rider of RUN THE CUTTER, was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100 metres, two more than permitted. WILD ELEMENT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. ROCKSHORE – Jumped out at the start. Race 3 – Open Hdcp 1090 METRES WRECKING BALL – The licence of Jockey K Gates, rider of WRECKING BALL, was suspended from riding in races under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 18th December up to and including midnight 1st January 2022 for use of the whip on ten occasions prior to the 100 metres, five more than permitted. WALSHIE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event. laid in under pressure in the home straight. DAULAT SUPREMOLEON – Began awkwardly. Apprentice L Barr reported the gelding raced greenly in the early stages and tended to race with its head in the air during the middle stages of the event. Race 4 – Maiden Plate 1212 METRES DAULAT ULTI MAIORA – Apprentice L Barr was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out fully to the line. CRAIGLEA BANDIT – Shifted out to improve near the 700 metres. HUSH PUPPY – Slow to begin. Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start and lost ground. Resented sand kickback in the early stages of the event. Raced wide rounding the home turn. ROCKET RYAN – Jockey K Gates, rider of ROCKET RYAN, was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted. CONLEY BELL – Slow to begin. Taken wider on the track near the 700 metres when CRAIGLEA BANDIT shifted out to improve before shifting closer to the rails a short distance later. Rider M Philpot reported from that point CONLEY BELL resented the sand kickback and was uncompetitive for the remainder of the event and finished in last place to be beaten 98 lengths. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Afford was advised CONLEY BELL must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. Race 5 – Benchmark 60 Hdcp 1380 METRES MY CERTAIN – Raced wide for the majority of the event. TONY’S DECREE – Jumped in abruptly at the start and bumped heavily with FLICK. EXPRESS DRAGON – Raced wide for the majority of the event. HOMECALL – Raced wide for the majority of the event. FLICK – Bumped heavily on jumping. RED HANA – Following the event and on return to the enclosure RED HANA became distressed and was attended to by the veterinary surgeon. Soon after the mare suffered a catastrophic cardiac arrest in the tie up stall area and was declared deceased. Race 6 – Benchmark 55 Hdcp 1600 METRES MODERN FAMILY – Slow to begin. Rider S Stephan reported after being crossed near the 1400 metres the gelding resented the sand kickback in the middle stages of the event. MR MAHARAJ – Apprentice M Philpot, rider of MR MAHARAJ, was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on eight occasions prior to the 100 metres, three more than permitted.
