CITY CHICK – Began awkwardly. Apprentice S Blunt was fined $100 under AR190(3) for accepting a ride where she was overweight. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of the riders’ clear record, guilty plea, mitigating circumstances of a recent illness and the Penalty Guidelines. As there was no other available rider Miss Blunt was permitted to ride 2kg overweight.

PRINCESS MARIAN – Upon return to scale was found to have bled from both nostrils and has now been banned from racing for three months and until the completion of a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of stewards.

Race 5: CRAFT RENTAL & HARDWARE Class B Handicap 1380 metres

MASTER DRUMER – Raced three wide early.

MUSSEL LINES – Bumped soon after the start with CHAIRLIFT.

CHAIRLIFT – Bumped soon after the start with MUSSEL LINES. Jockey A Spinks reported that the mare failed to muster any speed and did not handle the sand track. Trainer G Richardson stated that the mare was first up for a month and may have been in need of the run, however accepted that CHAIRLIFT failed to handle the track conditions. An intended post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted as the vet was delayed with the post-trace swabbing process and the horse had left the course after the prescribed time.
