ELESPRIT MISS – Began awkwardly and bumped with LLAMA CHARMER. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to hang out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight. Steward questioned trainer D Gardiner in relation to the fitting of the pre-race earmuffs under the bridle and winkers which would impede the easy removal for barrier staff as required. When questioned, starter B Steindl advised that as the gear was not listed on his starters report he errantly did not remove the gear. A cross-check of the gear list confirmed the pre-race muffs as part of ELESPRITS’ gear however this gear was not reflected on the Starters Report. Due to the conflicting nature of the two reports associated with this circumstance, stewards refrained from taking action other than to remind the starter to cross-check runners wearing removable earmuffs irrespective of being listed or not and trainer D Gardiner was reminded to ensure that the gear is fitted for easy removal.

LOVE MY LOUIS – Began awkwardly. Jockey M Butler advised that after beginning poorly he rode with aggression to obtain a forward position and as a result his mount then over raced early which in his opinion impacted the mare’s capability of finishing the race in a competitive manner.
