Race 1: TOP ECHELON MAIDEN PLATE - 1200M

The start of this race was delayed due to the late arrival on course of the ambulance.

AUDACIOUS (G. Killen), SOUL POWERED (D. Green) and GRUDGE (A. Merritt) were slow to begin.

GRUDGE raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.

Approaching the 1000m, WITHOUT GRIEF (B. Cornell) shifted in and away from BRAIN TEASER (App B. Ainsworth) tightening the running of TREVLYN’S COL (S. Drake). WITHOUT GRIEF continued to lay in, again tightening the running of TREVLYN’S COL for some distance. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of WITHOUT GRIEF, B. Cornell, was advised to make a greater effort to allow more room for the runners to his inside in future.

AUDACIOUS and SPATHONIS (J. Letherby) raced wide throughout.

Following a further assessment of the track following the running of this race, the track was downgraded to a Dead 5.

Race 2: QUEENSLAND COUNTRY LIFE CLASS B H’CAP – 1100M

Trainer B. Ahrens was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of B. Evans as the rider of KERRICAIT.

The start was delayed when EAGLE’S NEST (App Q. Krogh) became fractious and was cast in the barriers. Upon being freed and examined by the veterinary surgeon, EAGLE’S NEST was declared a late scratching at 1.25pm. On the announcement of correct weight all monies invested on EAGLE’S NEST were ordered to be refunded, with the deduction of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of all win bets, and 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer S. Batten was advised that EAGLE’S NEST must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.

SCOTCHMAN (S. Drake) was slow to begin.

KERRICAIT (B. Evans) and RAZOR CASTLE (App. S Payne) raced wide for the majority of the race.

On pulling up S. Payne, the rider of RAZOR CASTLE, was dislodged, injuring his right leg. After being examined by the ambulance officers, S. Payne was stood down from his remaining rides for the day and was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to his next race ride.

Race 3: R.J BURDETT BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1100M

Correct weight was delayed to allow third-placegetter S. Drake (CROFTSIDE) and fourth-placegetter App. B. Ainsworth (BRONCO) to view the stewards’ footage to ascertain if they had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner A GRADE STUDENT (App Q. Krogh). After viewing the available footage they declined to proceed and correct weight was given on the judge’s numbers.

HITMAN HARRY (J. Letherby) began very awkwardly and threw its head in the air, losing considerable ground. Trainer D. Pearson was advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of HITMAN HARRY.

Near the 950m, A GRADE STUDENT shifted in making heavy contact with TIGERPRINT (App B. Derbyshire).

CONHENRI (App H Phillips) was inclined to hang out leaving the 700m until entering the home straight.

A GRADE STUDENT raced wide throughout the event.

Race 4: TOM DUNNE BEAUDESERT HIBERNIAN CUP BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 2450M

JAVA BAY (D. Green) began awkwardly.

CHOIR GIRL (App. B. Derbyshire) was slow to begin.
GO JOHNNIE GO (App. Q. Krogh) and VAN HOOLIGAN (J. Letherby) were tightened for room at the start between BACK TO ABILENE (App. B Ainsworth) and ADENARIUS (A. Merritt), which began awkwardly and shifted out.

Shortly after the start GO JOHNNIE GO commenced to hang out and continued to do so for the majority of the race, shifting wider on the track and near the 950m was restrained and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination of GO JOHNNIE GO revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Spackman was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required and also that the gelding must trial to the stewards’ satisfaction before being permitted to race again. Mr. Spackman further advised that he would give consideration to reassessing the horse’s racing future.

Race 5: DIEC PTY LTD CLASS 2 QTIS H’CAP – 1400M

As M. Vance was not riding at today’s meeting, she was replaced by B. Derbyshire as the rider of SNOWTOP. M. Vance was fined the sum of $100.00 for failing to fulfil her engagement.

SNOWTOP (App. B. Derbyshire) and LADY OSCAR (D. Green) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of DEFY ALL ODDS, which trailed the field throughout and took no competitive part in the event, revealed no significant abnormalities.
