GENERAL

Race 1: PAUL MCLURE “BACK TO SCHOOL” QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1050M

BIGGER THAN TEXAS – Reluctant to load. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Raced greenly approaching the 600m and hung out rounding that turn. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

JAYDEE INDY – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

ROCKY GAMBLE – Began awkwardly, bumped by another runner and lost ground.

TIMPERLEY – Overraced in the lead in the early stages.

BOLD ‘N’ SASSY – Had to be steadied when hampered between runners passing the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SUGAR STAR – Slightly hampered passing the 400m when TIMPERLEY shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings other than minor abrasions to the near hind leg.

Race 2: MEGA FUELS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1650M

RICH PRIDE – Slow to jump.

SCREAMING IMPULSE – Overraced in the early stages.

Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 2450M

GODWOOD – Rider dropped her whip passing the 400m. When questioned regarding her tactics, jockey S. Drake advised that trainer G. Cornish instructed her to ride the gelding in its normal racing pattern, which is to go back, and be patient and at a point passing the 1000m attempt to pressure the gelding to improve into the race. Jockey Drake explained that she did ride to the instructions that were given and was of the belief that after passing the 1000m she did attempt to improve her position to the inside of RED BOHEMIA, which was racing forward of her at that stage, but the gelding only improved gradually and in her opinion was struggling to get into the race. Stewards advised jockey Drake they were concerned that from passing the 1600m to a point approaching the 1000m there may have been an opportunity for her to improve forward, albeit by shifting three wide at that stage. Jockey Drake said she believed connections would have preferred her not to shift to a three wide position at that point of the race and therefore she elected to remain in the position she was in until a point passing the 1000m. It was noted that the horse ran on fairly over the final 700m without ever looking like being in a winning position. Stewards noted her explanation.

Race 4: PETER GRAY F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

The start of this race was delayed when the bandaging on NELLIE’S DELIGHT became loose and had to be removed.

CANTREMEMBA DARLIN – N. Masuda reported at scale that his mount raced greenly back in the field.

ZEZOLLA – Raced three wide throughout without cover.

BEST OF US – Began awkwardly and shifted out. B. Newport pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race and was fined $200. In determining penalty, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that his actions had cost his mount 3rd place.

MORE THAN EDGY – Bumped shortly after the start and was hampered between runners. Raced three wide throughout. Raced greenly after passing the 700m and laid out rounding that turn. When asked to explain the filly’s performance R. McMahon could offer no explanation other than that it was disappointing. Connections suggested that the filly will more than likely be sent for a spell.

INVINCIBLE STORM – The horse’s nasal strip became displaced prior to loading and could not be refitted and therefore the horse raced without that gear.

MISS MARLO – Slow to jump.

Race 5: CORNISH RACING C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M

CZARIST – Began awkwardly and shifted out. After being caught wide in the early stages, pressed forward to obtain a position in the lead passing the 700m.

HAVRAN – Raced three wide with cover throughout. Had to be checked and lost its rightful running passing the 200m. F. Jervis, the rider of TRUSTED MAGIC, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point she permitted her mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of HAVRAN. Jockey Jervis’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday 29 January and expire at midnight on Monday 6 February 2017. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Jervis’ previous good record in relation to this rule.

PEXBURY AVENUE – Slow to jump.

FROGMOUTH – Hampered between runners on jumping. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

FREEZEN EASY – Fractious in the barriers.

LAKOUDIS – Fractious in the barriers, removed and cleared by the veterinary surgeon to take its place in the field.

SLEEK WOLF – Reared up and became cast in the barriers, removed, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 3:55 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SLEEK WOLF be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3:55 pm:

9 cents in the dollar for the Win #10
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #10
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
10 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

Trainer T. Green was advised that the horse will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate and a veterinary clearance prior to its next start.

IT’S WANTED – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 6: TRUCK & EARTH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

VOANABA – Slow to begin and then was hampered shortly after the start.

RAINBOW SPIRIT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

STAGE LADY – Had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.

EVE’S JET – Had to be checked when awkwardly placed at the heels of runners passing the 700m. Momentarily tightened between runners at the 400m when DASHING WIN shifted in slightly. Severely hampered passing the 300m when GLENTURRET improved into a narrow run to the inside, forcing EVE’S JET outwards on to the heels of VOANABA and in doing so became unbalanced and blundered, almost dislodging its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer L. Kelly advised that he would inform stewards should anything come to light in coming days.

SHEZA HOTTI – Had to be steadied when forced wider rounding the home turn. Forced wider, had to be checked and lost its rightful running approaching the 250m. J. Oliver, the rider of TONY’S PRINCESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that at that point he directed his mount out when not sufficiently clear of SHEZA HOTTI. J. Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 4 February and expire at midnight on Monday 13 February 2017.

CRAZY AS ZOU – Raced three wide without cover.

MELDOLA BLUE – Began awkwardly and then was slow to muster speed.

DASHING WIN – Raced wide with cover. Shifted wider by another runner rounding the home turn.

Race 7: BEAUDESERT FRAME & TRUSS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1400M

REDDAMOUR – Slow to jump. Forced wider on the track passing the 500m.

LONNERO – Trainer M. Costa will be advised that a fine of $100 will be imposed for his failure to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card.

OUR ROCKY – Raced four wide throughout.

NIGHT WOLF – Slow into stride. Forced wider on the track passing the 500m.

PENDIGO – Commenced to weaken after passing the 600m.

MUTUAL BENEFIT – Improved onto heels passing the 500m and had to shift out, and in doing so forced other runners wider on the track.

DINA’S DRAGON – Commenced to weaken when galloped on passing the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination

TUNED IN – Raced three wide throughout.
