The declaration of correct weight was delayed when L. Cheshire, the rider of PRINCE OF PEACE, after viewing the stewards patrol footage, made an application for her mount to be declared a non-runner as her barrier gates did not open simultaneously with all other gates. After taking evidence from jockey Cheshire and trainer’s representative Mr J. Sexton and viewing the videos of the start, stewards established that although the barrier gates of PRINCE OF PEACE were marginally slow to open, they were not satisfied that it had any material effect on the horse’s placing in the field and therefore declared the horse a runner.

On an undertaking from the trainer that the mare wore that gear at its previous start, stewards, after making further inquiries, established that the horse had worn that gear at its previous start and therefore allowed the mare to race in that gear despite it not being advertised. A public announcement was made this effect.

Spinks explained that the gelding overraced when the pace steadied through the middle stages and he felt as a result the horse then failed to finish its race off and proved disappointing.

TRUE STEPPER – Bumped on a number of occasions near the 1000m.

LILLIE EVANGELENE – Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in near the 1000m despite the efforts of its rider, making contact with MOBILE, which was forced in and had to be steadied from the heels of MR ATTITUDE. A short distance later, when awkwardly placed to the inside of the heels of MR ATTITUDE, made contact with TRUE STEPPER, and both runners continued to bump on a number of occasions shortly after. Both R. McMahon (MOBILE) and R. Plumb (TRUE STEPPER) were advised that although riders were encouraged to ride competitively, they should not ride in such a manner as to compromise the safety of other riders.

SEND US A SIGN – Commenced to hang out from the 600m. Trainer R. Litton indicated that he would now send the filly for a spell. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had pulled a plate. Mr Litton was advised that the filly must officially trial prior to being permitted to race again.

Sitek explained that the gelding has been racing over shorter distances from wide barriers and as a result has raced wide, which he felt reflected its performances.
