In the opinion of the stewards, he failed to give his mount full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible position in the race. Jockey A. STELLA’S CHANCE – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer Mr L. Ross noted the gelding was having only its third start for his stable, the first start of which was over the unsuitable distance of 1400m, and at its last start over 1800m the horse began awkwardly and was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated. Mr Ross added that the gelding was suited by the step up in distance today when able to be ridden in a more prominent position.
