Race 1: TAB BM62 H’CAP – 1400M
MR DUMONT – B. Stewart was fined $100 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.
OUR ROCKY – Overraced in the early stages and then near the 1000m had to be restrained after improving on to heels.
INSTANTANEOUS – M. Palmer dropped his whip near the 150m.
PRINCE OF BARODA – P. Romeo was fined $300 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over the horse’s allotted weight.
SNAPPY DIAMOND – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event and then commenced to weaken near the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be sore in both forelegs upon flexion. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance and must trial officially prior to racing again.
Race 2: SPILL THE BEANS @ AQUIS FARM QTIS 3YO CLASS 1 PLATE – 1400M
CURSE FREE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When overracing at the rear of the field and due to the slow tempo, was allowed to improve wider on the track before obtaining the lead near the 900m.
SPIRIT OF CHEROKEE – Commenced to overrace when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages.
CARPE NOCTEM – Tightened for room at the start.
COUNTESS DE GALVEZ – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with CARPE NOCTEM.
MISSIE ARCHER – Had to be steadied near the 500m when awkwardly placed at the heels of CURSE FREE. Shifted out when attempting to improve rounding the home turn and made contact with TEQUILA BOOM.
TEQUILA BOOM – Buffeted between runners at the start. Bumped rounding the home turn.
Race 3: TAB REWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M
After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice S. Sweeney, the rider of COUNTESS NATALIE, placed 5th by the Judge, lodged objections against NOWISEVERYTHING, placed 1st by the Judge, and ITSA, placed 2nd by the Judge, alleging interference approaching the 100m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that approaching the 150m NOWISEVERYTHING commenced to shift in under pressure, resulting in COUNTLESS NATALIE being taken in and across the heels of ITSA. As stewards were satisfied that ITSA had maintained a straight course, they therefore dismissed the objection against the 2nd placegetter.
In regards to the objection against the winner, stewards were mindful of the margin separating both runners at the finish and the proximity of the interference to the winning post, and with that in mind therefore dismissed the objection against the winner and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
NOWISEVERYTHING – Raced three wide without cover.
ITSA – Bumped at the start.
COUNTESS NATALIE – Tightened for room near the 100m and had to be checked when taken in across the heels of ITSA. Apprentice J. Hodge, the rider of NOWISEVERYTHING, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at that point he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of COUNTESS NATALIE. Apprentice Hodge’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 20 March and to expire at midnight on Thursday 28 March 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Hodge’s good riding record, his plea of guilt and that the degree of interference was in the low range.
FLYING DEE JAY – Bumped at the start.
VIOLET JANE – Had to be steadied near the 400m when awkwardly placed at the heels of YARBOROUGH, which was taken in when inconvenienced by the weakening GOT THE KNACK.
GOT THE KNACK – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped NOWISEVERYTHING. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer B.
Robinson was advised that prior to racing again the filly must trial satisfactorily and the results of an ECG must be produced to stewards.
LOVE PUZZLE – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
SMARTCELLI – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: AQUIS FARM SELLS @ MM MARCH YS BM58 H’CAP – 1050M
ANIMAL INSTINCT – Had to be checked when tightened for room shortly after the start. Obliged to alter course approaching the winning post.
FLIM FLAN MAN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
SHEAR VOGUE – Had to be eased when placed in restricted room near the 500m. Apprentice M. Wishart was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the end of the race.
ARROW EXPRESS – Weakened over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice S. Sweeney stated that after racing wide and having to pressure her mount in the early and middle stages to obtain a forward position, the filly was then unable to finish the race off as anticipated. She added that the filly was not entirely comfortable in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
LWAZI – Had to be eased after improving on to the heels of SHEAR VOGUE near the 400m. Held up rounding the home turn and approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between SHIITAKE and FLIM FLAN MAN and as a result went to the line without being fully tested by its rider.
TIN’S POCKET – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
SHIITAKE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which subsequently cleared the gelding to take its palace in the event. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Bled both nostrils. Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to starting again must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.
SPLASH OF CRISTAL – When questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance, trainer C. Weston explained that at the mare’s last start it was obliged to race wide throughout and also the rider had reported to him that she had concerns with the mare’s action and therefore she was reluctant to pressure the mare over the final stages, which had exaggerated its beaten margin. Stewards noted Mr Weston’s comments.
Race 5: MISHANI RACING CLASS 2 PLATE – 1400M
Apprentice J. Grob, the rider of 3rd placegetter EXCELAMOUR, was afforded the opportunity of viewing the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds on which to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter WAINUI GOLD. After viewing the videos, apprentice Grob declined to lodge an objection.
After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, apprentice J. Hodge, the rider of POLE VOLTER, placed 6th by the Judge, lodged an objection against ALL ONE CLASS being declared the winner, alleging interference at the 1300m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that ALL ONE CLASS had shifted in at that point, causing interference to POLE VOLTER, however, stewards also considered the manner in which both runners finished the race off and the margin of 2.8 lengths separating both horses at the finish and were not comfortably satisfied that a reversal of the placings was warranted and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
POLE VOLTER – Began awkwardly. Tightened for room at the 1300m, had to be severely checked and lost ground. B. Ainsworth, the rider of ALL ONE CLASS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that at the 1300m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of POLE VOLTER, which was severely checked and taken, making contact with MOUNT PANORAMA, which also had to be checked. Jockey Ainsworth’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Wednesday 20 March and to expire at midnight on Saturday 30 March 2019. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Ainsworth’s plea of guilt and her very good riding record.
WAINUI GOLD – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
MOUNT PANORAMA – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters near the 1300m and had to be checked.
ALL ONE CLASS – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer L. Richardson explained that at the mare’s last start she was obliged, from the wide barrier, to settle further back than anticipated and was then able to finish the race off well. He added that today the mare was able to find a more prominent position and in his opinion the step up in distance to 1400m, combined with racing at its home training track, all contributed to today’s performance.
BUBBA ROCKER – Slow to begin and then trailed the field for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer G. Osborne was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
EXCELAMOUR – Rolled in under pressure leaving the 200m and had to be straightened by its rider. Apprentice J. Grob was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
Race 6: ANZAC DAY RACING @ AQUIS BEAUDESERT C,G&E CLASS 1 – 1200M
MIGHTY MOOSE – Shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped STARCASTER. Overraced in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority of the event and near the 500m was forced wider on the track. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, placing its rider at some disadvantage.
STARCASTER – Bumped at the start.
TRUE RAIDER – Slow to begin.

LOUISE OF GLENCOE – Had to be steadied after improving on to heels near the 600m.
DELPHOX – Had to be steadied near the 400m when tightened for room to the inside of SOLITARY ROSE, which was initially taken in by LOUISE OF GLENCOE, and then continued to shift in slightly. L. Tarrant , the rider of SOLITARY ROSE, was reprimanded for this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a heart murmur. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he will be required to produce the results of an ECG and a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to it racing again.
MENTAL AS ANYTHING - Began awkwardly and made contact with the outside barrier partition.
BRITTEX – Became unbalanced for a stride when bumped heavily near the 400m by NICCONI BAY, which shifted in. Apprentice M. Shimodaira, the rider of NICCONI BAY, was reprimanded. Had to be steadied near the 250m to avoid the heels of COOK STRAIGHT, which shifted out when not fully clear. Jockey D. Smith, the rider of COOK STRAIGHT, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
