WatsonStewards Secretary – W. Ostrofski GENERAL As N. Thomas was injured and E. Ljung was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 1: TAB BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1650M CHARMING PRINCE – Got its head down as the start was effected and lost ground. Steadied approaching the 1300m when awkwardly placed at the heels of STELLAR JEWEL, which was taken in by MOGUL. A. Fancourt, the rider of MOGUL, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Disappointed for a run to the outside of STELLAR JEWEL leaving the 200m and was obliged to shift back to the inside of that runner to secure clear running over the final 100m. TYCOON LAYLA – Apprentice C. Frater-Hill dropped her whip passing the 100m. UBER MOVER – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of HENRY’S ON COURSE near the 250m. ONLY EVER ANNIE – Overraced in the early stages. SOLITARY ROSE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. HOOVESGOTCHA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 2: SPILL THE BEANS @ AQUIS PARK BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1650M NOWISEVERYTHING – Steadied from the heels of EIRA approaching the 1300m. RULER’S PRIDE – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room. SHINAR – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room. CHICAGO NIGHTS – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied from heels approaching the 1300m. TAN TAT NOVA – Slow to begin. Unable to improve when held up behind tiring runners between the 600m and the 400m. MEGASHOT – Upon returning to scale apprentice S. Lacy reported that it was not her intention to settle in a forward position, however the gelding overraced when caught wide in the early stages and subsequently was allowed to stride forward to settle outside the leader near the 1000m. CHOPPA – Overraced in the early and middle stages and as a result raced wide without cover until obtaining the lead near the 600m. SILK TOPPER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Race 3: TAB REWARDS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 2450M SLAUGHTER BAY – Hung out rounding the home turn. LATINO LOVER – Upon arriving behind the barriers the gelding underwent a veterinary examination at the request of jockey Oliver and was subsequently cleared to start. Slow to muster speed in the early stages. FENCOURT – Overraced in the early stages and near the 2200m was steadied from the heels of FLYNN EFFECT and then continued to overrace for some distance thereafter. EXCELEBRATION GOLD – Bumped at the start. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Left a trailing position near the 800m to improve and raced three wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Hung in in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance, N. Day stated that he was instructed to make a sustained run in an effort to avoid being held up as in previous races the gelding has had difficulty improving when obliged to race at the rear of the field. Jockey Day added that when asked to improve passing the 800m the gelding improved quickly, however peaked on its run leaving the 300m and was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. SAIBYE – Bumped the hind quarters of YANKEE SANG upon straightening and blundered. FLYNN EFFECT – Bumped at the start. CORSINI – Held up rounding the home turn. YANKEE SANG – Upon leaving the enclosure the filly reared and fell over, in the process dislodging T. Marshall, who took a seemingly harmless fall. Stewards subsequently acceded to a request from trainer G. Baker to remove the tongue-tie as it appeared the filly was resenting this piece of gear. Public announcements were made to this effect. The filly then underwent a veterinary examination prior to the race and was cleared to start. Bumped by SAIBYE upon straightening and became unbalanced. Race 4: BEAUDESERT RSL SUB BRANCH QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M The declaration of correct weight was delayed whilst connections of the 5th placegetter CRUDE OIL viewed the photo finish image. Connections indicated they were satisfied with the Judge’s placings. CRUDE OIL – Overraced in the early stages and near the 800m improved on to the heels of ROSIE ROSE and shifted wider. MISTER MAGNETIC – Unable to improve when held up between the 400m and 300m, hung out rounding the home turn and was held up over the concluding stages and obliged to steady away from the heels of BALERION. THE DEMTEL MAN – Held up passing the 400m. ARC OF GOLD – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. LUVYOULONGTIME – Slow to begin. ROSIE ROSE – Began awkwardly. SMARTCELLI – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. A. Spinks reported that the filly did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. SAN BERNARDINO – Overraced passing the 1100m when being restrained to obtain cover but was unable to do so and raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. RED POET – Slow to begin. POWERFUL LASS – Began awkwardly. Disappointed for a run upon straightening to the inside of SHIMIZU, which shifted in abruptly when weakening, and as a result had to be checked from the heels of SHIMIZU. Eased down over the concluding stages. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards could not be satisfied that POWERFUL LASS had obtained a run to the inside of SHIMIZU prior to the incident and given the abrupt nature of the shift from SHIMIZU, which was weakening, were not completely satisfied that the carelessness of jockey Fancourt (SHIMIZU) caused the incident. Nonetheless, jockey Fancourt was severely reprimanded for permitting SHIMIZU to shift in at that point. Race 5: MISHANI RACING MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M GREY SKIES was declared a late scratching at 2:33 pm when the gelding was unable to proceed to the barriers. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on GREY SKIES be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:33 pm: 2 cents in the dollar for the win #11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #17 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1010 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9 Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that GREY SKIES must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to starting again. SKALD – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Inconvenienced near the 1000m by LUCKY FIX, which shifted in. NORMANTON – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. BROOKER AVENUE – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. SOMEBODY LOVES YOU – Hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start. DANCES WITH TIME – Hampered at the start. SPORTINI – Hampered at the start. D’GREAT BEAUTY – Raced wide throughout. KAFFKA – Raced four wide without cover for the majority of the event. Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS F&M BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1100M Trainer M. Eggleston was fined $100 for the late declaration of N. Fazackerley as the rider of ROSELLA GIRL. SEND US A SIGN – Overraced in the early stages and near the 800m was steadied from the heels of MISS DEFIANCE and shifted wider on the track. MISS DEFIANCE – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. CLOSE ENOUGH – Commenced to weaken from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination the mare to have a poor post-race recovery. RAVEN’S WING – Slow to begin. INSTANTANEOUS – Began awkwardly. Hung out during the middle stages of the event. Race 7: BEAUDESERT TIMES PRESENTS BEAUDESERT CUP JUNE 22 C,G&E BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1100M MISHANI RULER – Raced wide throughout. BIG LITTLE LIES – Raced wide without cover throughout. SKY ONE – Raced wide throughout. FOR THE RECORDS – Reared as the start was effected. LWAZI – Disappointed for a run to the inside of SUGAR BUZZ upon straightening and was obliged to shift back to the outside of that runner to secure clear running over the final 150m. BACCHUR – Began awkwardly. COMMISSIONER – Slow to begin. FLINDERS DRAGON – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turnto the inside of SUGAR BUZZ. Apprentice B. Nothdurft was reminded of his obligation regarding his use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. DREAM WILDER – Following the horse’s late arrival on course, a pre-race sample was taken and the gelding underwent a veterinary examination following which it was cleared to start. Trainer Matthew John Dunn was fined $200 under LR30(2) for failing to present the horse on course by the prescribed time. Raced wide throughout. NAKANAI – Eased passing the 400m when placed in restricted room. Race 8: RACING AT BEAUDESERT JULY 27 BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1400M OUR ROCKY – Overraced in the early stages. LIMBO STAR – Held up passing the 300m. COOLMUNDA – Hung out in the middle stages. THE BIG EATER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. WACK’EM – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners. Subsequently underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. STARCASTER – Raced fiercely in the early stages when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover and raced wide throughout. Held up rounding the home turn. ALL ONE CLASS – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, B. Ainsworth stated that she was instructed to obtain a handy position with cover, which was the mare’s preferred pattern of racing. Jockey Ainsworth noted that the mare had been obliged to race further back than anticipated at its last start after beginning only fairly. She added that as such it was not her intention to lead today, however when caught wide in the early stages she elected to press forward to obtain a position closer to the rail, which resulted in her settling outside the leader passing the 800m. Jockey Ainsworth further added that after her saddle slipped forward passing the 700m she was unable to restrain the mare any further and elected to improve its position. Stewards noted the explanation. EMPRESS ZHAO – Blundered at the start. BUNGAREE BOY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
