GENERAL
 
Due to injuries sustained at Gold Coast and Warwick on the 26th December 2020, changes for jockeys M Palmer & S Bogenhuber were permitted as per raceday summary.
 
Race 1: HAPPY NEW YEAR BEAUY MDN PLT - 2450m
 
JAKK'S RIGHT – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 9.30am. Trainer L Abbott was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to JAKK’S RIGHT starting in any trial or race.
 
PUCKISH – Laid in in the home straight.
 
REDENZO BULLET – Near the 1900m shifted away from the heels of PUCKISH. Approaching the 400 metres on the first occasion, slipped behind for no apparent reason.
 
Race 2: THANK YOU MEMBERS & SPONSORS MDN HCP - 1100m
 
AL DONTE – Approaching the 900 metres was severely crowded when taken out by METRICAL out onto DIVINE GOLD. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Cornish was advised that AL DONTE must prove its competitiveness in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again.
 
TOP MASTER – Bumped on jumping by AMAZENA.
 
TRY TO BE GOOD – Slow to begin. Approaching the 900 metres had to be checked off the heels of METRICAL when EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS shifted out. Raced keenly in the early stages and steadied away from heels of EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS in the vicinity of the 800 metres.
 
EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Approaching the 900 metres had to be steadied when shifting out despite the efforts of its rider.
 
AMAZENA – Shifted out on jumping and bumped TOP MASTER. Approaching the 900 metres was hampered by GEM SETTER which had been taken out by DIVINE GOLD.
 
DIVINE GOLD – Approaching the 900 metres was crowded when taken out by AL DONTE and onto GEM SETTER.
 
METRICAL – Approaching the 900 metres was crowded when taken out by EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS.
 
GEM SETTER – Raced three wide with cover.
 
BOOM CHUGGA LUGGA – Raced three wide without cover.
 
After the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
Race 3: THANK YOU TRAINERS & JOCKEYS QTIS 3YO MDN PLT – 1300m
 
BETTER DAYS AHEAD – In the home straight inclined to lay in under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a small laceration on the near side gum.
 
BRIEF SOJOURN – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, jockey B Ainsworth stated that after beginning well she attempted to take up a position behind BOOM CHUGGA LUGGA who had crossed her, however when METRICAL had followed that runner she was mindful of her mounts tendency to hang out and therefore elected to steady her mount in an attempt to race behind METRICAL. She added that after getting her mount to settle, she was of the opinion that BRIEF SOJOURN, who was having its first start today, needs an uninterrupted run and rather than place her mount in restricted room, she elected to ease around the heels of THE RED DANCER and then make a long sustained run around the field. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
DIAMOND BEANS – Slow into stride.
 
IN ORDER – As J Morris was unable to fulfill his engagement due to traffic difficulties, he was initially replaced by N Tomizawa. When jockey Tomizawa also experienced traffic difficulties, he was then replaced by R Goldsbury.
 
MISS CHARLOTTE – Reared as the start was affected.
 
THE RED DANCER – Bumped on jumping by MENSCHKEIT. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
MENSCHKEIT – Shifted out and bumped THE RED DANCER.
 
Race 4: THANK YOU OWNERS C4 HCP - 1100m
 
Correct weight was delayed when the 2nd placegetter, Jockey N Tomizawa (FAT MAX) and the 3rd placegetter, Jockey T Marshall (COOK IT CHARLIE) requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether either party had grounds to lodge a protest against the 1st placegetter LA MAESTRA (Apprentice Z Lloyd). After viewing the films, both Jockeys advised that neither did not wish to proceed with a protest and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings.
 
COOK IT CHARLIE – Approaching the 500 metres was forced wider by LA MAESTRA which commenced to hang out. Approaching the 300 metres had to be eased off the heels of LA MAESTRA when it shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.

GENERAL WITT – Made contact with the barriers and sustained a small injury to its tooth. Dislodged its off side winker during the event.
 
LA MAESTRA – Approaching the 600 metres commenced to hang out taking COOK IT CHARLIE wider on the track. Approaching the 300 metres shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider, forcing COOK IT CHARLIE wider again. Stewards advised Apprentice Z Lloyd, in the presence of senior jockey Andrew Mallyon, to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
YOUR OPTION – Inclined to lay out throughout the event.
 
Race 5: TAB C2 PLT -1650m
 
GALVARINO – Near the 1000 metres commenced to over race onto the heels of BARNEY’S LAW for several strides and had to be steadied and shortly after shifted in abruptly hampering ELECTRIC ELYSE.
 
ELECTRIC ELYSE – Hampered near the 900m when GALVARINO shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
 
THE GOOD THE BAD – Raced three wide throughout.
 
Race 6: TAB BM65 HCP – 1200m
 
PHABENI – Shifted in on jumping hampering THE LAUNCHER. Approaching the 200 metres was bumped and taken out onto OUR ROCKY when THE LAUNCHER shifted out.
 
THE LAUNCHER – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after by PHABENI. Held up rounding the home turn on the heels of MAC’S GAL. Approaching the 200 metres shifted out marginally off the heels of MAC’s GAL and as a result made contact with PHABENI which was then taken out onto OUR ROCKY.
 
MAC'S GAL – Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages.
 
JAKAMA – When questioned regarding todays performance, Apprentice A Jones, in the presence of Trainer J Dann stated that her mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however when rounding the home turn she was momentarily held up on the heels of PHABENI and when OUR ROCKY improved to her outside, she was obliged to shift to the inside to obtain clear running. She further stated that she elected to ride her mount hands and heels to the line as she didn’t feel comfortable using her whip due to her lack of experience. Stewards noted her explanation.
 
SECRET CONQUEST – Began awkwardly.
 
HEKANSPLIT – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey C Caserta could offer no explanation for the poor performance and added that HEKANSPLIT was a beaten horse a long way out and as a result, elected not to place the gelding under any further pressure. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer L Ross advised that it would now be his intention to retire the gelding, however nonetheless he was notified that he will be required to provide a veterinary clearance if HEKANSPLIT resumes a racing career.
 
OUR ROCKY – Approaching the 200 metres was bumped and taken wider by PHABENI which was taken wider by THE LAUNCHER.
 
Race 7: TAB C1 HCP - 1400m
 
WANTOK – Raced three wide with cover for the majority.
 
GRAZIANO – When questioned regarding the poor performance, rider R Goltz stated that his mount travelled well throughout however when asked for effort, GRAZIANO failed to respond and went to the line in a disappointing manner. Trainer K Kirwan stated that GRAZIANO had worked well since its win last start at Esk and could offer no excuse for the poor performance today. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K Kirwin was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of GRAZIANO in relation to its competitiveness.
 
ORSON – Laid out shortly after jumping taking BLACK WHITTO out onto LUANA and forcing REDENZO GAL onto the heels of LOVE PUZZLE. When questioned regarding the poor performance, Apprentice K Wilson- Taylor stated ORSON failed to handle the step up in distance today and may not have been suited by the pace of the race. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.
 
QUEEN LEAR – Slow into stride.
 
REDENZO GAL – Leaving the 1000 metres improved onto the heels of ORSON and had to be steadied. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
LOVE PUZZLE – Approaching the 300 metres had to be checked off the heels of the weakening ORSON.
 
WANTED MISS – Raced three wide without cover for majority.
