Race 3: TAB 2YO CALCUTTA 12 JANUARY Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

On return to scale A Thompson, rider of 3rd placegetter ORIGINAL GLAZE, viewed the patrol footage in the home straight before lodging a protest against 1st placegetter MIDNIGHT DRIFTER ridden by R Wiggins, alleging interference approaching the 150m. After hearing submissions from the connections of both runners and viewing the patrol footage, Stewards found that approaching the 150m MIDNIGHT DRIFTER shifted in when racing greenly under riding and ORIGINAL GLAZE was then obliged to momentarily steady when tightened for room between MIDNIGHT DRIFTER and ROSES IN THE RAIN. Bearing in mind the beaten margin and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, the protest was dismissed, and correct weight declared on the semaphored placings.

YANKEE BLOSSOM – After getting its hind leg up in the barriers, was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 1:31pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on YANKEE BLOSSOM be refunded with the following deductions to apply -

Stewards noted his explanation.

EARLY CHOICE – Improved onto heels nearing the 150m and was held up for a short distance until leaving the 100m point.

Race 6: BEAUDESERTRACECLUB.COM BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 2450 metres

LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Shifted in under pressure over the final 50m. Stewards questioned trainer L Manzelmann regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding. He stated it was only the second start in his care and the horse had raced on the previous Monday at the Sunshine Coast and in his opinion performed well. He further explained that Lets TORQUE A DEEL had recovered well from this run, and he was confident of a forward showing with the step up in distance and was also of the opinion the gelding races best when it can get to the outside of other runners. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Manzelmann.

MEMOIRE PARFAIT – Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey J Guthmann-Chester reported at scale that he wasn’t entirely disappointed in the performance of the gelding as he was obliged to do more work than anticipated in the early stages to find the leading position, and he felt this had an effect on the horse’s finishing effort.

On this undertaking, stewards advised co-trainer A Simpson that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding.

HEMSWORTH – Blundered on jumping. Rider S Cormack advised that after blundering on jumping he was obliged to race further back than he had anticipated. Cast its off-fore plate.

Race 8: HAPPY NEW YEAR RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1650 metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards acceded to an application from trainer R Singleton and jockey R Wiggins for FOXY FRAULIEN to be declared a non-runner. After reviewing the patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that FOXY FRAULIEN had been denied the opportunity of a fair start owing to the barrier attendant having hold of the mare’s head when the start was effected resulting in jockey R Wiggins becoming significantly unbalanced and FOXY FRAULIEN also becoming unbalanced. Stewards therefore ordered that FOXY FRAULIN be declared a non-runner pursuant to AR 204(1)(c) that all monies invested on FOXY FRAULIEN be refunded with the following deductions to apply -

1st – 12c the win, 10c the place
